With the help of a generous grant from the Heritage Lottery Fund, Trinity House renovated the Engine Room at Lizard Lighthouse, retaining some of the old engines. It now also features new exhibition material, an audio visual room and a number of interactive displays. The Lizard Lighthouse Heritage Centre was officially opened in 2009 by HRH The Princess Royal.

The distinctive twin towers of Lizard Lighthouse mark the most southerly point of mainland Britain. See displays depicting Trinity House's history, housed in the original engine room. It was commissioned in 1752. For over 250 years, the lighthouse has provided a welcoming landfall light to vessels crossing the Atlantic Ocean.

Tours of Lizard Lighthouse are organised under licence from the Corporation of Trinity House.

As other reviewers have said well worth the money. We spent ages looking around, and it's also just a nice place to visit with some great views. Also a great area for walking where you can see seals and look out towards the USA. Don't miss it.!!

Spent a good couple of hours here. Would recommend the tour. Guides very informative. A nice afternoon. There are houses attached to the site which you can rent for a holiday. They look great and have some good reviews. Stunning views.

We really enjoyed our visit to Lizard Lighthouse. Me and my 6 year old found the tour and the climb to the top of the lighthouse very informative and value for money. Would definitely encourage people to visit if in the area.

I took my 6-year old grandson on a visit to the Heritage Centre and guided tour of the lighthouse. We both enjoyed the interactive displays in the centre before going on the tour. Thanks go to our guide Emma for a fascinating explanation - full of historical and scientific data, but made interesting and fun for the children in our... More

Enjoyed the informative displays and hands on exhibits. We paid to go on the tour and had a great time. Plimsolls are freely available to those who are wearing flip flops so all's not lost. The tour guide, Declan, was a delight. Obviously knew his stuff and good with the kids. Fantastic views from the top. Everybody enjoyed the free... More

We were exploring the Lizard when it started to hammer it down with rain (no coats for any of us, oops!) so decided to pop in to the heritage centre to get dry! Sweet little place. There's a lighthouse as you'd expect, little ones can't go up, as the steps are very steep. Great views from the top. There isn't... More

Having read the reviews of Lands End and how expensive and over-commercialised it was, (and actually, Lands End isn't the most southern part of England) we opted for Lizard Point instead and we were so glad we did. You can park on the Green in the village ( please DO put a reasonable donation in the box instead of ignoring... More
