Just a short drive (about 1km, if that) on a dirt track off the Newell Highway about 30mins from Coonabarabran. I've visited the Sandstone Caves twice ... stunning colours and textures in the sandstone. I imagine it would be fun for kids (was for me) climbing through the caves too. Lots of birdlife.

The caves were an easy walk from the car park through open forest. The caves had very interesting colours and features in the sandstone, with some having aboriginal carvings in them. Well worth seeing.

A 70km dirt road round trip for nothing. Little to see, the cave is just a gap in the wall, no birds to be seen on the dam walk and nothing much of interest to see from the lookout.

Follow the directions carefully - it's not sign posted for a reason. Keep your eyes open from 35 km from Coonabarabran. Once there, you'll be rewarded with a beautiful, 2 km circuit walk with lots of interesting things to discover in a small part of the ancient Pilliga Forest.

Due to recent bushfires the caves and the road to caves has been damaged and are closed for public. If you intent to visit pls check with visitor information centre at Coonabarabran.

Although these are not deep caves they are spectacular in their own way. The walk is really quite easy and is over before you know it. A great place for photographers.

Was very easy to find after talking with tourist info. Even with a bad leg and walking stick, was not a bad walk just needed a few more stops. Great photo spots and the views were awesome.

Easily found following directions given at the Tourist Information Centre in Coonabarabran & just a short drive from Coonabarabran. The dirt road in from the Newell Highway is only about 1km & the road is fine for 2WD. There is interpretive signage at the start of the walk & a few bench seats at intervals throughout the walk. This exceeded... More

Really amazing - kids and even us enjoyed walking through the caverns. Recommend a guided tour to get the most out of it.
