Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

We love going up to Gan Gan Lookout to take in the lovely views over the district. You really have views in all directions from the vast sand dunes to the South, the entrance to the vast waterway as well as to the west.
Great place to watch the sunset but one of my favourite things to look at and photograph at the lookout are the wonderful Gymea Lillies which were in full bloom.
The walk up to the top is easy and there is plenty of parking if people do the right thing.

A five minute drive around the hill gets you to small car park (maybe a dozen car spaces) at top where you have views over one mile and birubi. Get out of the car and walk up a slight inclined path for a couple hundred metres (less than 5min walk) to the main lookout north and west over the bay and ocean. Good value quick reasonable lookout for the low entry price of nothing.

Gan Gan Hill is a free activity and worth the drive to the top. Sunrise would be amazing from here. The panoramic views of the Port Stephens area are spectacular and help you to appreciate the beauty of the bays. There is limited free parking so it could get busy during peak travel times. Remember to walk to the lower lookout as it provides views over the ocean.

What a lovely view. Almost 270 degree viewing angle. A must place for panoramas in phone. There are two lookouts actually - one at car park and the main one a short stroll up

Good lookout point! You drive your car up the steep drive to a smallish car park then take a very short walk on concrete footpath from there to the lookout. Best to try to get there mid week as early as possible because hardly anyone there and no one on the narrow drive up. My 80yo Mum and elderly brother enjoyed it. Easy activity to tick of your to do list!

Gorgeous views especially on a clear day and even better they are FREE. There is no where to picnic, but well worth a visit. Don't get caught out and only go to the lookout where the carpark is. The main lookout is to the left of where you park (not the obvious one at the right). Well worth a quick stop, but nothing to hang around for.

Drove up to Gan Gan lookout on the first day arriving at Port Stephens. It offers amazing views of the whole area and an amazingly romantic sunset with the wife. Small but informative. Highly recommended.

Very high lookout over all of Port Stephens easily accessed by car and a short slightly steep walk. You can see all of the Heads opening out to the Ocean and lots of landmarks of the area. There is a direction post with places like New York etc for overseas visitors to orient themselves.

We went with family and friends here as a part of our Port Stephens tour. You'll have to drive up to the top and at the end of the road, there's a few parking slots (parking was a bit tight though). You might have to wait for a slot if the place is packed but when we went there we're lucky to have it among ourselves. From the parking lot, it was a short and easy stroll - we even have a 2 year old walk with us to the lookout. The view was totally amazing, I'll definitely recommend this stop when you're around the area.

I was on my way south after having spent a couple of days over in Shoal Bay and took the road signposted off towards the Gan Gan Lookout. The relatively short, windy road lead up to a small car park, which on the morning in question was practically empty.
The walk from this car park to the Lookout area is short. And from the top you get wonderful all round views of this magnificent coastline. Certainly worth the short detour to enjoy such natural beauty.

Yes, but I recommend driving up, as it doesn’t have a foot path
