Hard to believe this was a daily commute for Quarry workers! Beautiful views as you climb the steps both up and down; just make sure to stop for those views! The stone steps are uneven heights so you need to pay attention. Glad I learned...More

Last year I celebrated my 63rd birthday by visiting the steps for a walk. Did not get to the top as I ran out of steam. However, well worth a visit - I got to step #350. My second visit took my sister, age 68...More

On the way up the mountain stepping up on the stones was exhausting but we enjoyed every step. Since it has some places to rest at, we'd drink some water and keep going so it was a nice reminder for us. The view just on...More

First time here - I don't know why it took us so long! Formerly the commute to work at the quarry in the 1930s, now a great hike. Good overlooks, nice level trails inbetween the steps, and geocaches at the top an bottom.

Be sure your in shape before you attempt the 1000 steps. Going up was a breeze! Didn't realize there are different muscles used going downhill & I gave out about halfway down.

Stairs are uneven heights. There a flat walks between sets of stair. It takes about 45 minutes to climb. The view from the top is of the Juniata River Valley. Miners originally use steps and there were small cars to carry the rock to the...More

I have been hiking 1000 steps for a few years now and try to do it each year. It is a great hike with a lot of history behind it. Miners used to walk up the mountain and back down even in the winter months....More
