We visited on a rainy Saturday at 11 AM. The docent led us around the murals for an hour and a half with excellent history and explanation of the artwork. The mirrors combine religious history, spirituality, and 1940s political activism in amazing ways. Mary Queen...More

We took a 50-minute guided tour of the murals painted by Maxo Vanka, a Croatian artist, inside St Nicholas Croatian church. The murals convey powerful and timeless messages about social justice, making the church truly unique. Definitely worthy of a visit.

You just feel different walking into this church. It exudes holiness. I grew up in this area and have been aware of this since I was a small child. If you are a believer...you need to visit.

These murals in St. Nicholas Croatian Catholic Church in Millvale are an unusual combination of religious themes and commentary on social justice. Monumental in scale. The interior is unlike anything you've ever seen. Better appreciated during Mass or on a guided tour Saturday afternoons.

The artistry, the messages, and the legend of the artist make visiting this church an extraordinary cultural event. Maxo Vanka was a genius that somehow was missed by the art world at large. Timeless experience. You don't need to have an interest in religion or...More
