We enjoyed a delightful lunch and bought cute sweatshirts. They also have clean restrooms. Highly recommend!Visited March 2024Travelled with familyWritten 20 March 2024
- DesignerIndiana658 contributionsNature and Beauty EverywhereWe have just learned about this amazing area. Beautiful area with so much to offer people of all ages. We initially were coming for the "Falling Water " tour by FLW. To our surprise there are two homes to tour. Kentuck Knob which was amazing too. The hiking and terrain of the area is really a sight to see. Waterfalls abound this area and being that we were here only for a few days it was overwhelming. Could have stayed a week and still not seen it all. We rented a beautiful lodge and enjoyed the home after our daily activities. Some trails were not walkable as flood flash warnings but the rivers and streams were overflowing and we were happy to witness the powerful flows. What a gem of a place. We saw a different river when we first arrived as the rapids and rainfall were spectaculor. Scary actually in some ways as did not want to get to close. Rapids were higher than 5 I believe.Visited April 2024Travelled as a coupleWritten 4 April 2024
- SannaFinland838 contributionsGreat location for day hikesOhiopyle was a hood destination for some day hiking. We saw waterfalls, checked out the visitor center for some history and maps, hiked the Baughman Trail (very steep) to the Baughman Rock (excellent view) and walked around the river on both sides. It was also fascinating to check out the old train tracks and the bridge. During our visit there was some kind of event and loud live music, which we fortunately couldn't hear on the trails. Would definitely recommend Ohiopyle for anyone who wants to do longer day hikes or maybe even spend a night – otherwise I don't think it's a great destination for camping. Visiting during the leaves changing was an added bonus.Visited September 2023Travelled as a coupleWritten 18 June 2024
- RetiredTravelerTNNashville, Tennessee3,994 contributionsBeautiful Ohiopyle FallsResearch the trails in the park before arrival and be ready to accept the opportunities that the weather will allow. The visitor center and Ohiopyle Falls are directly across the street from the businesses of the small town. On a sunny afternoon in May, we found the Youghiogheny River flowing rapidly providing great views at the falls. The visitor center has a nice display on the lower floor. Parking is limited at trail heads which requires good planning and flexibility. Ohiopyle State Park is a worthwhile stop on a trip to southwestern Pennsylvania. While in the area, we found the tour of the Frank Lloyd Wright-designed home, Fallingwater, to be extremely interesting. We also enjoyed a stop at King's Covered Bridge on county road 653.Visited May 2024Travelled as a coupleWritten 29 June 2024
- Mom R49 contributionsWonderful relaxing place to visit! This was a wonderful place to stop and see beautiful waterfalls up close. The waterfalls were just off the spacious parking lot. There was a nice paved path to the visitor center. The basement of the visitor center had some very interesting exhibits. The bathrooms were nice and clean. The plants all around the grounds were beautiful. The shops and restaurants across from the visitor center looked interesting but we didn't have time to go in them.Visited September 2024Travelled with friendsWritten 16 September 2024

First it rained so our site was all muddy because there was hardly any stone left on our site. Then they had all kinds of water issues. We specifically booked a site right across from the bathroom so we didn’t have to go far. We were there from Thursday night until Monday morning. At this park you get your water and do your dishes inside the bath house. The water was brown all weekend so you really couldn’t use it for drinking. The toilets and showers were also brown. Friday night we noticed the park rangers running around trying to fix something but we weren’t sure what. Our bath house was like grand central station with people who kept driving to it. We later found out that a water main broke and they had closed some of the other bath houses. My husband found clean water in only one bath house in the whole campground. Sunday we came back from biking the gap trail and I went to get a shower in our bath house and it was locked. We had to drive all the way to the top of the campground to one of the two bath houses that were still open but only one had clear water. So that meant every time we needed the bathroom or you had to do dishes you had to go all the way up there. We were told they just discovered more leaks in our bath house and that’s why they closed it. I think they knew the leaks were there earlier but they couldn’t possible close all those bathrooms on a full weekend. Each bath house has only three stalls and two showers so imagine having only two bath houses open for a full campground. Then to top it off the train goes through all night blowing it’s horn. We loved Ohiopyle but will not camp here again. One of the worst state park campgrounds we have stayed at.

It's been several years since we were at Ohiopyle, so we decided to visit after a rain to chase some waterfalls in the area. Highly recommend the Jonathan Run Falls Trail. Be sure to take the side hikes to 2 other waterfalls! We had such a great times and the waterfalls were flowing nicely after the rain. Everyone goes to Cucumber Falls because it's easy to get to, so it gets crowded. Get off the beaten path and enjoy the less popular hikes and take in what the park has to offer. You won't be disappointed!

Rode the Great Allegheny Passage through the Ohiopyle state park. Gorgeous park, great well-maintained trail, beautiful views. On our return trip after a category 2 tornado hit, we were very impressed by how quickly the park staff were out there clearing the trail, cutting up downed trees, and getting debris off the trail.

Stunning cascades, can be viewed immediately when you arrive at the visitor centre parking lot. Wooden platforms give elevation and you can snap photos of the falls with ease and safety. The visitor centre itself is wonderful and has a viewing gallery one floor down where you can view the falls from a different perspective.
Really really enjoyed our visit here. It was off-peak season (December) so it was calm and peaceful. Got to take our time and got great photos. Nearby are some other falls that you can either drive up to or take a short hike. Can't imagine what the views would be like if we had come in the fall when all the trees still had their golden leaves.

Two adults visited Ohiopyle State Park for an afternoon in mid-May 2023 and thoroughly enjoyed ourselves. The Visitor Center has a fantastic location for viewing the (small) Ohiopyle falls and has a very nice exhibit center on its lower level. The rangers at the desk suggested a trail hike on the Ferncliff Peninsula that wouldn’t overtax two seniors. The trail along the river’s edge was a bit much with the rocks and mud but the two interior peninsula trails were both easy and very pretty with lots of wildflowers blooming. It is unfortunate that the rhododendron were not in bloom as they must be spectacular, as must the fall foliage in the entire area. We only had time for a small part of the park but it is certainly worth a visit.

We camped at the State Park. It's a beautiful setting but if you are a light sleeper, don't camp there. Every night 5 trains passed through the valley and tooted their horns as they approached Ohiopyle. The sound carried up the valley to the camp and it sounded as if the trains were right there. Also, there was no camp host and a group of young people camping near us partied until 1 am even though the camp quiet hours are 9 pm - 8 am.

This is a great state park. The views/ scenery/ waterfalls are just gorgeous. And visit the cute little town that sits right in the middle. Very cute, lots of eating options and right next to the GAP and the Ohiopyle State Park visitor center. You can see some gorgeous falls at the visitor center as well. Definitely a great place to visit. We were there in September and it was definitely on the cold/ cool side. It warmed up a bit as the day went on. So dress in layers, wear good hiking type of shoes. We didn't see any snakes, but I imagine if the weather is warmer, snakes are probably nearby. We did see some deer and we heard tales of black bears in the area, but didn't see any.

We’ve been here for three nights. Haven’t seen a ranger drive through ever. Camp sites are right on top of each other. Our restroom doesn’t have paper towels or a hand dryer.
Nobody is policing noise. It hasn’t been “awful” but definitely not good.
By far our least favorite state park campgrounds.

We visited Ohiopyle Falls after visiting Falling Water and Kentuck Knob. The falls were lovely, although there were a lot of visitors on the Tuesday after Memorial Day. We took the pedestrian bridge across the river and hiked the Ferncliff Trail around the peninsula. It was fairly easy hiking and offered several good views of rapids on the Youghiogheny River. Once you get away from the Falls, there were very few people along the trail. Appropriately rugged footwear is advisable. We were actually staying in Morgantown WV and this was only an hour away from there. We will come back to the area in the future.

Now that I have camping reservations I see that our site 45 is a shared site. I'm a little worried about this. Will we have our own fire pit? Also we want to kayak - not whitewater, are there places in the area to do so?
Written 28 May 2023
You could drive to Connellsville where there's a park under the rt 119 bridge and waters calm as you won't be in the mountains and put a kayak in there in the lower Yough river

What kind of tent camping is there in Ohiopyle? Are there any remote spots? Possible to camp near the river or swimmable water?? Thanks!
Written 6 June 2020
We camped in the state park camp ground and it was awful! The regular tent sites are right on top of each other. We got a "walk up" site that is a little more private. But you have to haul your stuff up a steep trail to your site. People were partying, cussing, and blaring music until 12:30 and no one stopped them. Worst camping trip we've ever done. Maybe if you go during the week it would be better and less crowded.

Are any of the hiking trails dog friendly? Any other areas in or around the park dog friendly?
Written 14 March 2020
The portion of ohiopyle state in and around the town of ohiopyle is dog friendly
Be advised it’s not uncommon to cross the paths of cats, pheasants and ducks.
The trail to cucumber falls is dog friendly.
Another option is to drive up the street to cucumber falls and avoid the extended trail to see cucumber falls directly.
At cucumber falls itself is very dog friendly
Provided the pooch likes steps

We will be staying at an airbnb at the park for a week in August. Is there anywhere in the area that we can rent a pontoon boat for a the day?
Written 24 April 2019
Try one of these marinas; they are just across the Route 40 bridge over Yough Lake. Yough Lake Marina @ 814-395-3423 or Lakeside Marina @ 877-211-8919. They are both about 25 minutes from Ohiopyle. Deep Creek Lake is a little further, it is a 55 minute drive from Ohiopyle. There are several marinas there that rent boats. Word of caution; both lakes get very busy on the weekends so a weekday rental will be far more relaxing. Also, book in advance at either.

My family and I are going there in a couple weeks to raft. Should we pack a lunch or are there places close by to eat? Someone mentioned in a review how there are cute shops in town. Also, why is the easiest way to get there from central PA? I know it's only an hour and a half away but not really sure where to go once we are in the general area.

There are many small ahops and restaurants nearby. The rafting is phenomenal. Trwat is yourself and don't pack a lunch.

What scenic areas of the park can be driven to without a long hike?
Written 13 July 2017
Cucumber Falls the Natural water slide also the main Falls area on the Yough river Kentuc Knob also is nice. The whole area is very scenic.

The only area I have seen tubing is the Middle Yough. Rapids are classified as Class I & II. It runs between Confluence and Ohiopyle.
