Hi! We're having a great time at Children's Museum of Pittsburgh and the only thing missing is you. MAKESHOP, our tinkering space, has real tools and materials such as wood, sewing machines, hammers, nails, a loom, animation station and more. Jump right in, that circuit isn't going to build itself! The Art Studio is calling for your creative energy to design and ink a silkscreen, paint, sculpt clay and create something unique alongside the many working artists who visit. Young ones, you are royalty in the Nursery, a space filled with colors, shapes and textures perfect for your growing minds and bodies. The Attic, Garage and Waterplay (because it's just not fun until your underwear is soaked) round out the permanent exhibits. But not so fast. From marching bands, slam poets and cultural traditions to letters that fall from the ceiling and a crawling maze made out of packing tape, our temporary exhibits, performers, programs, artists-in-residence and artwork are particularly awesome too. If we don't hear the protests of departing kids at the end of each day, we're not doing our jobs right.

The best children's museum I've been to

We traveled to many museums with our children, who are now 11 and 14, and this was the best museum for them without question when they were 3-10.

After visiting the Marbles Museum in Raleigh it's hard to impress us, sadly. The Pittsburgh Children's Museum is very well thought out and fabulous but limited on space. The shining gem of the museum is seeing the exhibits that change out periodically. We were slightly disappointed they didn't have more Mr Rogers items for our 3.5 year old who loves... More

This is a great place for the kids! We started in the water play area where the kids got to play in a number of water areas and do a number of activities. We spent well over an hour just there. Make sure to bring a swim suit and towel for the kids. The kids played on the slides, ran... More

Visited with my 7 year old daughter and she had a blast. Nice size museum with lots of interactive areas for children to play with and explore. We went on a Wednesday and the place was pretty empty and she was able to everything she wanted multiple times without waiting in line. Probably went through the 'gravity room' a dozen... More

Great place for the kids. So much to do. We come every year and they are always updating certain areas. My 2 yr old son loves the train display while my 11 yr old daughter loves the sports works area. It is a great place to let them play.

We were here many years ago with our kids. How time flies! . We brought our grandson here the other day. We were concerned there would not be a lot he would be interested in at this age. Not so. He had a great time exploring the nursery room and especially the water area. Unfortunately, we were on a time... More

We coincidentally were able to visit the Children's Museum for FREE! on Mr. Roger's birthday. It was a lot less crowded than I thought it would be. And we got to meet Mr. McFeeley and get his autograph! It has been several months since our last trip. We were one of the first ones in the building and one of... More

Museum seems small, but if you let kids explore and do what they want, it can last all day. We opened it and closed it. Lunch at the cafe was actually pretty good and very reasonable. School groups made it busy in the morning, but they cleared out by 1 or so. We had kids wear swimsuits under their clothes,... More

Hundreds of of engaging, interactive exhibits and activities everywhere across 3 floors of an impressively adapted artifact of Pittsburgh architure! We particularly enjoyed the garage and the waterworks rooms. The toddler room alone has at least 20 installations that blew our 2 year old away.

This place is huge! Our kids had a blast. There is so much to explore and staff to help on hand at every exhibit. Be sure to bring swimwear for the water play floor. It's absolutely necessary! We enjoyed seeing the Mr Rogers puppets too although the kids had no idea what they were. Favorites for our kids were the... More
