It was the year 1829 when Americans were getting used to their newly elected president, Andrew Jackson, that 23-year old David G. Yuengling, an immigrant from Wurttemberg, Germany, settled in Pottsville, Pennsylvania, and started a brewery. Originally named the Eagle Brewery, today the Yuengling pride, symbolic of the American Eagle. Each Yuengling label bears the eagle trademark chosen by young David Yuengling so long ago. Previously located on Centre Street, current site of Pottsville's after only two years of operation. A new brewery was then constructed on Mahantongo Street, where operations continue today. The brewery remains family operated by Richard "Dick" Yuengling, Jr. and his daughters are being groomed as the sixth generation.

After years of being big fans of Yuengling Lager, we finally did the brewery tour. This is the oldest continually operating brewery in the U.S. and that heritage is evident. The old cooling cave carved out of the mountain under the brewery is fascinating. Our...More

We really enjoyed our visit to Yuengling Brewery. It was so interesting and our tour guide JJ was awesome. The caves below the brewery were really neat. I loved hearing the history of the place.

We visited big breweries and small craft breweries and making beer is pretty much the same with all of them. I really enjoyed learning the history of the Yuengling family and their brewery; before, during and post prohibition. This is the oldest brewery in America....More

We have toured a number of breweries in the United States and abroad and the first we have ever encountered caves is at Yuengling. Back in the early days, the caves were used to age and ferment the beer, but now are just beautiful reminders...More

This is one great tour. The guide was probably the best one I ever had at a brewery. We have toured many breweries but none have the history of Yuengling's. Be prepared for many steps and ready to read all of the historical items along...More

Parking is limited around the brewery, however, with a couple trips around the block you can find parking spots close to the tour center. If you use the parking garage down the street, plan on an 'invigoratiing' climb up the... More
