Enjoyable Excursion

I have been on many train rides and this one I would rate very nice. It takes you back to 1950’s. Cars are simple and well maintained. I like trains that keep and show the integrity of the train. I would classify this as scenic. It runs along the Chester Creek. You were able to see even on a rainy day the industries the homes, the creek, trees and fields along the track. A trek down to the Glen Mills station with a brief stop to go inside was a treat. There was Enough time to stretch your legs. There is a bistro there, but it was not open. On the return Ride, the train moved a little faster and was pleasant to just sit back and relax. Dress for the weather. A very small heater was at either end. It was comfortable but I kept my hat and gloves on. They did let us board as soon as we arrived at 11:30 for the noon ride. Take food and drink as nothing is sold on the train except books. However the only bathrooms are portable potties, at the stations so keep that in mind if you are eating and drinking on the train. For $17.00 for adults it was a good deal and something nice to do with the family. My only suggestion would be to have some narration on the way down.

It's a volunteer railroad, guys. Calm down.
Nov 2019
If you're upset at the quality of the seating or something similar, understand that the staff and workers are entirely on a volunteer basis. If you'd like to make something cleaner, of higher quality, or you know how to improve something wrong with their railroad:

Volunteer. Fix the thing you don't like if you or somebody else you know has the ability.

Have taken the "Santa Ride" for the past 5 years
Dec 2018 • Family
Quintessential American Christmas experience! The train ride and visit with Santa is an annual holiday event for our family. Photo opportunities on the train and with "Santa" are well worth the the ticket price - not to mention the banjo accompanied sing-a-longs on the outbound and return trips.

Christmas Train
Dec 2018 • Family
We went on the Christmas train ride today, and while the pouring rain certainly put a damper on things, we were extreamly disappointed. The train seats are dirty and falling apart. For the cost of the train ride, I figured they would give the children a cookie or candy cane at the least, but no, nothing. Visiting with Santa was about 15 seconds to accommodate all of the people waiting. In my opinion, it’s just not worth the cost. Hoping in the future they can update and add an actual restroom in somewhere.

Disappointing
Nov 2018 • Family
Here are the reasons for my mediocre rating:
1). Two portable potties at train station.
2). One portable potty at Glen Mills (half way point) for approximately 150 passengers to share during 20 minute visit. Also, no concessions offered.
3). There was no tour guide announcements during the entire trip...not even a thank you for taking the tour in the train.

Great way to have a short picnic.
Jul 2018 • Family
Need way to see the old diesel railroad that used to run from West Chester. It is about 30 mins from West Chester to Glen Mills along some very nice scenery. Once in Glen Mills the picnic grove is a nice place to have the lunch you brought with you and then your the station and ride the train back to West Chester. This trip is the perfect amount of time and a decent price.

Quaint little tourist railroad
May 2018 • Couples
I've ridden the WCRR rails a couple times. Heck I still remember when the Media local went all the way the West Chester, but no more. The train runs from the Market Street terminal to the Glen Mills station, a distance of just under 8 miles. The train moves slow enough to make it an enjoyable trip into the past. I just wish they had a steam locomotive, but there's nothing wrong with historic diesel power.

A Step back in time
Oct 2017 • Solo
This a fun trip for the whole family. The trip lasts 90 minutes which is exactly the right amount of time. The train takes you from West Chester to Glen Mills Station. They use 1950 diesel locomotives and very old passenger cars. They have special trains for: Easter, Mother's day, halloween and Christmas.

Santa Express
Dec 2017 • Family
We had such a wonderful time. Singing on the train, seeing Santa twice! Santa and Mrs. Claus came through the train to say hello. Absolutely magical. This will be a new tradition. My four year old was mesmerized. You would have to be a Scrooge to not see the magic in this and have a good time. Sit back and relax. It’s all about the kids and the magic of the season. Snack car on train.
