If you enjoy local history and old mansions as much as we do, you will enjoy this visit. You can see the process of restoration in one of the rooms as well as pictures showing how it looked during the Civil war. Excellent docent. Nice civil war exhibit in one room

The house was very nice. The docent was very knowledgeable and very enthusiastic. The house is not fully furnished, but there are period pieces in the downstairs rooms. It is a great house to see the detailed woodwork and fireplaces of the time. It is amazing with the history of this home that so much remains in tact. Wonderful that... More

This house has not been completely restored, so you really get to see the house and what it was truly like. Our docent Liz was informative about, not only the house itself, but Beaufort History as connected to the house. Very nice tour- you learn a lot.

Verdier House lets you experience architecture , style , and life on Bay Street. The home was built around 1805 and allows you to glimpse a bit of what it was like for those living , in Beaufort , two centuries ago. If you enjoy history , please stop in.

The house is a beautiful federal style mansion built in 1804. The tour of the house had just left so we decided to only do the free Civil War museum on the ground floor. It's a small museum that could have been better but it was okay for the space they had.

The only antebellum home in public hands in Beaufort. The diorama is instructive, the docent was beyond superb and the house tells its story to you. If you are in Beaufort and want to learn about how those folks lived, this is a must.

Built in the early 19th century, this house is over 200 years old! The tour takes you through the rooms of Verdier's home, and you get to see artifacts of Verdier's and his family, like a ledger he used as a manager of a general store and silverware from the Verdier family. (REAL silver--silver equaled wealth back then.) Right now... More

This is not the place to visit if you are wanting to see family furnishings, as none of the furnishing are from this family. The history of this house is what is important, and it was great too learn about the family and here hard times for such a rich family.

This lovely historic house was recovered and reconstructed in the 1940's. Period pieces and mini history lessons are abundant, and for the low admission price, you get a guided tour. I had walked by this museum house several times without realizing that it was open to the public. Glad I paid more attention to the sign outside this time! Tours... More

Besides touring an restored house with an interesting history, you will see a scale diorama of the main street of Beaufort as it was prior to the Civil War. In fact, you can ask to see the diorama for free.
