Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

The Point, or the Old Point as it is often referred to to distinguish it from other local places that have the word "Point" in their names, is the center of the socially elite in Beaufort. Beautiful houses, magnificent old oak trees, all give you the flavor of stepping back in time. It is probably best appreciated on foot.

We went to see the Big Chill house and so glad we found it. A beautiful setting that brought back wonderful memories. Just drove around the neighborhood for a bit, and it was impossible to make a 'wrong' turn. What a wonderful experience. And - see the movie again if it has been a while. It has aged very well.

A must see in Beaufort, the Point offers a glimpse into the history and affluence of the city. You are surrounded by the beauty of the homes, the view of the water and the huge, Spanish Moss draped oaks. Lovely.

Absolutely love this area! Enjoyed the history, the architecture, the restaurants, the shopping, the people. It is a must visit destination. Take the walking tour, visit the islands, enjoy the beaches and stay awhile. The area is a treasure! We could spend days here and will definitely visit again

Great place to walk. Peaceful, quiet, magnificent Antebellum Mansions in a friendly quiet neighborhood. We were the only tourists walking the streets on a beautiful cool early June evening. People are moving from Charleston to this great Beaufort SC neighborhood.

The Point neighborhood (also known as "The Old Point" neighborhood) is one of the finest and most historic neighborhoods in America. Covering the eastern portion of Beaufort's Historic District, this neighborhood is intimate to walk through and provides a unique historic, architectural, and cultural wrinkle to your Beaufort visit.

This neighborhood is right across the street from the Bay Street commercial district and the Waterfront Park, providing visitors with quick and easy access to its charms. A delightful collection of homes, ranging from narrow lot cottages to waterside mansions give the Point its relaxed, residential aura. This is a true neighborhood and not a museum. Keeping that in mind, please be aware that privacy still should be respected, and fences and walls do exist sometimes for a reason. Still, there is plenty to see from the street, and if that isn't enough, you can see much of the rest from the water that wraps around the peninsula.

If you can only do one thing when you are in town, visit this neighborhood!

It is not easy to find. We went to the Visitors Center and they guided us to the right area. We found a place to park our car and we walked around. The "Point" is a collection of Antebellum houses. There are several to see. They are just beautiful. So glad we took the time to see them.

This neighborhood is really wonderful if you like the southern antebellum architecture. You have classic stately mansions, smaller brightly painted homes, big live oaks with Spanish moss, cicadae and cabbage palms. This is where Hollywood comes to film when they need southern mansions. It’s really a great area to drive through. I wouldn’t even mind walking through but I’d worry people might say something if I’m walking around in front of their house. There didn’t appear to be many people driving around looking at the homes. I was out there driving around and taking pictures (see my pics of some of the homes). This is just one area where there are beautiful old homes. On the other side of Bay Street is another area that seems to have even bigger homes. Buy a good book and a map before you go to find all the antebellum houses.

Horse, bus and walking tours can take you through this treasure land of Antebellum architecture, or you can stop by the Visitors' Center for a self-guided walking map. Part of the charm lies in the huge live oaks with their drapes of Spanish moss. Be sure to complement this tour with a walk up and back down historic Bay Street (adjacent to the Point), with the magnificent bay view.

We arrived on Sunday and the carriage tours were not running. We were offered a walking/ driving tour self service. The point houses a collection of historic homes with family stories of the past. These homes and streets show days of growth and prosperity. The gardens and water views are as varied as a rainbow. Almost a mini Charleston/Savanna. Framed with majestic live oaks and Spanish miss with fortunes made on land and sea. Great photo ops. See how Hollywood has used this town in so many great movies. I was glad that we missed the scripted tour. One of the houses Marshland was built by Verdier a pioneer in treatment of yellow fever. Tidal hold was used in the big chill and the great Sabrina. Tidewater was built by one of the wealthiest nineteenth century planter. The oaks was built by grandson of Paul Hamilton, president Madison's navy secretary. Great for single, couple, family.
