Very small space, but packed full of confederate memorabilia. The museum is owned and operated by the Daughters of the Confederacy and houses a lot of items donated by Veterans and/or their families. If history is your thing, especially southern history, you will enjoy it.

I really enjoyed visiting this small museum. I wish I had had more time as they have many items to look at and read about the civil war. It is very moving.

It is housed in a building on top of the city market. The building is where soldiers enlisted to fight for South Carolina in the war. It has some interesting relics from the war, including some original battle flags. Admission is $5/person. I wouldn't recommend you bring small children as the Museum is packed and you can't touch anything.

After living in the Charleston area for two years, we finally found this museum to actually be open Saturday afternoon. When I mentioned this to the staff I was greeted with silence. Don't assume it's open during the stated times; look for the sign. If you happen to be at the Market, find the Museum to be open, have a... More

Loved all the artifacts and the stories that went with them - it brought the war up close and personal. It was so interesting to see the shredded flags, uniforms, clothing, weapons and all the stories from the families and people that donated them. I wish I could've spent more time there. Check website to check their hours and I... More

Located at the heart of downtown Charleston at corner of Market and Meeting Streets. Run by the UDC, the artifacts are excellent and worth a look. Very small museum (one room) but great pride is taken in it. A small collection of books including copies of Confederate Veteran Magazine which I wish I had time to sit and read and... More

They do very little advertising here, but well worth it if you love American history and Civil War history. Staff knowledgeable and friendly.

Greeted by 2 octogenarians who chat briefly with you. Obviously proud of their town. I was raised in the south but this place brings home the reality of the war. A reality which tends to fade with time.Lots and lots of personal items that make the war and its aftermath very real.
