There's no better way to see historic Charleston than from the vantage point of an Old South Carriage. Family owned and operated since 1983, Old South Carriage Company offers fully narrated hour-long tours by licensed guides wearing the Confederate uniform with the Red Sash. Come to our English-style stable at 14 Anson Street, just 2 blocks from The City Market and meet our friendly and professional staff. Reservations are not necessary as tours depart every 20 - 30 minutes throughout the day. A ramp leading to a platform makes boarding easy. Old South Carriage Company uses French Percherons and Belgian Draft horses. These sturdy employees vacation at Sugah Cain, the owner's 65-acre plantation on John's Island. For 2-3 months annually, these beautiful horses are free to run in large pastures or leisurely graze under century-old live oaks.

Tours operate daily from 9:00 a.m. - 5:00 (DST) 9:00 a.m. - 4:00 p.m. (EST).

We had a very knowledgeable guide Elliot and his horse was named Freddie, they made a dreary day in Charleston very satisfying with historic facts of the city and funny stories along the route that gave us a base for the following time we spent in the city

Reasonably priced, very good tour guide. She had a wealth about of knowledge about the city, buildings, streets and the people that had been in Charleston. The horse Dave was beautiful and knew where to go on the tour route. We visited several places after the tour because of here knowledge about the places we saw.

We had an awesome tour on 1/20. We chose the 4pm tour and it was perfect way to end our day. "Dave" pulled our carriage around town as we learned about historic Charleston. Our group was throughly impressed with the wealth of knowledge that was presented. The carriages were clean and comfy seats. Also loved the tour guides in costumes!... More

I've been to Charleston many times, but never took a tour of the city. I chose Old South Carriage Company because of the reviews of previous riders. The guide was very knowledgable about the city with a little humor along with the banter. The one hour ride was pleasant and gave a quick overview of the city. If you're looking... More

This was the first time to Charleston, and with so many carriage companies, I was so glad that we went with Old South! It is a family-owned business who really care about giving you a nice experience in Charleston.

Really enjoyed our ride. Carol our hostess was awesome, she and "JAKE" her horse were a delight. Thank you for such a nice tour. Would definitely do it again.

We came down for the long weekend and were told to do this carriage ride first thing. It was PHENOMENAL. We got a great view of the city, learned interesting history, and were left wanting more. Bob was a sweet sweet horse and Mackey was incredibly knowledgeable and funny. Would do this again, no doubt to explore the other zones!

This is our second time riding with Old South Carriage and it was just as good as the first. Carol and Dave were great hosts. I've listened to other carriage drivers while walking and none of them are as entertaining as Old South and Carol. The relationship the drivers have with their horses is evident! I just wish we'd brought... More

Our guide Carol Christmas was amazing. The facts about Charleston were spectacular. Our horse Jake pulled us through the streets with ease. Thanks for the brief history lesson of Charleston. The Peters

We really enjoyed this carriage tour though our friends at the back of the carriage had trouble hearing. The thing is, the whole tour is about 40 minutes so you will like it but you won't see a huge amount. I still recommend it as it is relaxed and informative.
