I learned a lot on the guided train tour, and very much enjoyed walking unguided through the swamp. It was a million degrees outside though, so we didn't make it very long before flagging. It's definitely worth seeing--especially if you can work around the weather.

My 9 year old daughter and I took the time to do the swamp trail at Magnolia Gardens. Surprisingly, we had the place to ourselves and there were few, if any, bugs. There were, however, lizards, turtles, herons, birds, squirrels, orb spiders, and alligators. Great...More

The boardwalk and trail were easily walkable. In the spring we were able to see wood ducks, nesting and juvenile egrets and herons, turtles, dragonflies, and even alligators. You are not allowed to bring food/beverages into the swamp garden. There are some shaded areas of...More

I added the Audobon Swamp Gardens to my Charleston “must-do” list because I love nature, swamps, gardens, and hiking and this location had it all. I had NO IDEA it was located on an old plantation, the Magnolia Plantation, until I got there. I was...More

Yes, they are! One baby gator was just a few feet from the trail, I stood and stared at it for a long time wondering if it was real. When it blinked I knew it was and moved along.

No, you have to pay the entry fee for the garden and also pay to add-on a ticket to get into the Swamp Walk. They will give you a code to gain access to the walk.
