Enchanting historic Charleston comes alive on entertaining and informative...

Enchanting historic Charleston comes alive on entertaining and informative walking tours with 7th-generation Charleston native Michael Trouche. Discover stunning architecture, glorious gardens, Civil and Revolutionary War sites, cobblestone streets, wrought iron gates, legendary graveyards, and the local flavor of the fabled “Holy City” that no one knows better than Michael, who grew up in the famous "South of Broad" area, and has written two popular books on Charleston, where his family has lived for more than 215 years. Michael won numerous prestigious awards as host of the acclaimed "Carolina Camera" television program for 20 years on the local Charleston CBS affiliate, and has charmed tour guests for 10 years with his unparalleled knowledge of South Carolina's history, culture, plants and animals, as well as colorful insights, locations and anecdotes that only a lifelong Charleston native would truly know.

Michael is an extremely knowledgeable tour guide. If you are interested in learning about Charleston history, this tour is for you. My husband & I thoroughly enjoyed it, and it is worth the money and time. I would not recommend this tour for those with physical disabilities preventing from walking uneven ground, however. It is a brisk pace which keeps... More

Very problematic approach to the slave trade. Barely mentioned, and he glossed over the worst of it.

This review is proof that if you look hard enough to find something wrong, you will. I cover a cast amount of subjects on the tour of Charleston, and in fact, include more on slavery and slave life than I do on the Civil War or Revolution, so it is not glossed over. We move through many locations over the... More

There is a reason why Michael has the #1 rated tour in Charleston. He is uniquely qualified for this work - 7th generation Charlestonian who grew up in this area, former TV personality, worked on stage in this area, has given thousands of tours. He also is very aware of the need to stick to a schedule and cover as... More

My wife and I went on Michael's tour yesterday and loved it. Michael leads the tour with great enthusiasm and energy. He is so knowledgeable about the history of Charleston and clearly loves this city. We were never bored and were surprised at how fast the two or so hours went by. Michael easy to engage with, open to questions... More

Michael is very well informed since he is a 7th generation Charlestonian and this becomes very clear during the 2 hour tour. He has deep knowledge of the architecture of the homes, churches and neighborhoods, and shares many good stories and anecdotes from Charleston's history and Michael's own personal history of growing up and still living there. We had our... More

Michael's knowledge on his hometown of Charleston is fantastic, and the way he speaks and presents the tour is with such passion and zest, that it's infectious! I felt that I learnt a lot, and found the stories and history of the town very interesting. It's quite fast paced, and the two hours goes very quickly, but it does give... More

I've lived in SC for several years now and I've visited Charleston many times. This was my first tour of Charleston and I thoroughly enjoyed it. I learned so much that I can share with others on future trips. I'll definitely be sending future visitors on tour with Michael. The 2 hour tour was so informative. The walking was at... More

Based on the TripAdvisor reviews we booked this tour and it was beyond wonderful. Everything stated in the reviews is true, and Michael was an excellent guide. Michael's deep knowledge and personal stories made this so much more than a run of the mill tour. And Michael goes above and beyond by learning the names of those on the tour... More
