Beautiful historic theater with not a bad seat in the house

It's the first American theater so it should be on everyone's list to visit. All of the seating is good. I wish I had know about the side balconies which offer great views. I... read more

We just moseyed on in and took a look around. The architecture and ironwork are beautiful and the paintings in the Tap Room are amusing. The building has a lot of history and I wish I could have learned a little more about it.

It's the first American theater so it should be on everyone's list to visit. All of the seating is good. I wish I had know about the side balconies which offer great views. I did not like the production I saw; but, the experience of seeing a production in this venue was enough.

Much better than we were expecting. We are now big fans and will be back for the holiday plays. Dracula was outstanding!

The Dock Street Theater has amazing architecture starting at the outside with the lighter green wrought iron on the balcony. There are numerous performances year round, especially during Spoleto. The theater is open for the public to visit. The lobby serves as the entrance to the floor level seats during performances. The box office and a waiting room with historic... More

We did not see a show while we were here but did stop in for the self guided tour. It was such a great piece of history. We enjoyed walking through and reading about the theatre's history. The women at the front desk was so knowledgable and friendly, she made us feel so welcome!

Charleston Stage has once again outdone itself with a superb production of "Hairspray" at the wonderful historic Dock Street Theatre. The entire cast of actors, singers and dancers were outstanding, making for a highly enjoyable theatrical experience.

We were a little disheartened that there weren't any shows playing when we went (and there's no shows playing our next planned trip either), but that doesn't diminish how amazing this theater is. From the plush, red seats and curtains to the enormous stage...this historical theater is amazing in any theater lover's eyes.

Went to see a musical this weekend Hairspray, presented at the Dock Street Theater. I did not know what to expect but we had so much fun! The theater itself is a historic renovation. It is small and all the seats seem close to the stage. It is a comfortable setting inside, with an outdoor courtyard bar, too Their company... More

My partner and I would come to numerous plays, and musicals during the season before we moved to Virginia this past June. We loved this theater, and the group of actors and actresses are top notch. They are all so versatile in their acting abilities. Writing this review is making me sad since I know we won't be able to... More

Visitors were allowed to come in and look around this restored theater. We spoke with an attendant and she explained some of the art hanging in the areas near the bar and the murals over the doors. It is a charming spot. We grabbed a brochure of the fall season and hope to see a show. The prices for tickets... More
