On our GULLAH TOUR we give an interesting glimpse into an ancient culture of these mysterious people descending from way across da water. Gullah people are the direct blood descendants of the slaves brought to the Lowcountry regions of South Carolina and Georgia; including both the coastal plain and the Sea Islands. These peculiar people were brought to Charleston by way of cargo slave ships. Charleston held the largest slave market in the United States where the Gullah culture & language continues this very day.

Alfonso was a wonderful guide and had all kinds of great information about Charleston from the local African American perspective. Stories about Charleston leaders, both good and bad, made us laugh and cry. Because Alfonso's accent is so strong, it can be hard to understand...More

Listen closely to Mr. Brown because his Gullah accent is pretty thick. He is an awesome tour guide who adds humor and suspense to his ride. The tour I went on was a full bus and air conditioned well. It would have been kinda cool...More

Mr Brown was an AWESOME tour guide! The information he had was amazing. The van was cool seats were comfortable. The tour lasted about 2 hours but you can tell there was SO MUCH MORE history to be told!

We did this tour on 06/30, and it was an informative and fun your. Beautiful coach bus, and the owner/tour guide was incredible. Worth every dollar.

I really enjoyed learning more about Gullah culture through this tour. The guide was very knowledgeable and seemed to enjoy his work. He encouraged questions and had many humorous comments, especially about his book.

As others have mentioned, it's not much Gullah, but is well worth going. Mr. Brown is a fount of knowledge and a humorous storyteller. Highly recommend it.

What a nice tour. I'm very happy that we chose this one. I flaked out and didn't bring my book with me. I forgot he wrote it. I would have scribbled notes on all of the pages along the tour. Mr. Brown and his book...More

This is a tour about the Gullah's role in the history of Charleston. You will see parts of Charleston that are not on the conventional tours, which gives you a better appreciation of the city - past and present - and all its inhabitants. Alphonso...More

We did several city tours but this one was the best. Our tour guide has written a book about the city. He was a delight.
