The South Carolina State house is not only a marvel of architectural design, its history is fascinating as told by the docents giving the guided tours. Ii was amazed at the amount of our nation's history involves South Carolina and the meaning behind some of our cherished traditions. Go! Learn! Be amazed! It's free, too!

We attempted to tour the State House the day after Thanksgiving, and were disappointed to find that it wasn't open. Maybe that's common sense, but if I were to re-do my afternoon in Columbia, I'd be sure to call ahead to ensure they were open and if they were offering tours! I found the website to be lacking information since... More

Stopped for a few photos. It's a beautiful building. Love the giant Christmas tree that was out front.

The SC state capital is so historic and beautiful. The architecture is so impressive and the grounds are sprawling and peaceful.

You won't be disappointed. It was interesting for my family, having recently moving here from the Great White North. But, everyone talks funny down here.

This was number 19 of state houses for my family. The grounds are nice. We took the guided tour Kathy was our guide and she was superb. We really enjoy the short film at the beginning of the tour wish all state houses had them. There is so much history in the building. Copper dome truly a beauty to see.

Hi All, This place is filled with history. My wife and I took a self guided tour. There was plenty of historical things to see on the property. The building and grounds are beautiful. It was a great way to kill an afternoon.

What a wonderful surprise to find an entire area dedicated to our (Black) history on the east side of the South Carolina State House! The sculptures are beautiful! Be sure to bring a camera as the flowers, trees, and scenery demand photography. We only walked around the outside but plan to return for the inside tour. Sunday afternoon was perfect... More

The grounds and surrounding areas are full of sculptures. The tour was excellent. We were hoping to see the governor because she was in her office but her staff was there and looked very busy. The renovation done on this building is outstanding! The artwork of some of the people representing South Carolina gave us a better understanding of their... More
