We stumbled upon Jan and the Georgetown County Museum and it was an amazing experience! We were researching our heritage, and Jan was able to show us houses built by our 6th and 7th great-grandfathers - that are still standing in town, and beautiful! She even went so far as to tell us that our family bible was at the... More

This is a sweet museum with excellent examples of life in the area from the beginning. Full time staff member is fountain of knowledge and enthusiastic to share. Small entrance fee, takes only an hour or so.

This is a small museum dedicated primarily to the people , business , and life in Georgetown County and the Low Country from it's beginnings through the 20th Century . It can be viewed as a self guided visit , or with a free volunteer guide . Admission fee is nominal , and there is a rather upscale gift shop... More

We didn’t even know there was a Georgetown in South Carolina. The dedicated and capable docent with a truly encyclopedic knowledge of the city’s history through good times and bad simply rocked us with one bit of lore after another. The details, we will leave for you to discover, rather than spoil your surprises. Suffice it to say that if... More

We did three museums in one day so we really got a lot of info about Georgetown and the history of the county. This museum had beautiful displays of Gullah crafts. They also had the hull of a ship that had sunk, all wooden. It too was very enjoyable.

Do take the time to stop in at this local gem. You will get a docent guided tour through the history of Georgetown. And, there is an impressive collection of artifacts to illustrate the history. It's well worth walking a block off Main Street.

Have wanted to go for some time and finally made it. What a treasure! Very knowledgeable and friendly guide. Wonderful collection and lovely gift shop. Accessible, restrooms and great staff. $5 entry fee was very fair.

Just because it was a January day I guess they thought the heat had to be on full blast. It was so hot in there it was almost unbearable for me. When we walked in we were asked if we wanted a guided tour or a self tour. We told the lady we wanted to self tour. She told us... More

This museum was a pleasant surprise at as a history major like myself I really enjoyed the collection. Also the tour was very informative and included historical tidbits such as Lafayette and Washington staying in Georgetown that I didn't even know about. A definite must visit for anyone who goes to Georgetown.

When asked, agree to the docent tour. You can go back to read all the info. Docent highlights key points in this 2-story museum only $5. Learn about how important Georgetown was for the rice industry but played second fiddle to Charleston on the social circuit. Many artifacts. Changing exhibits.
