I love Kalmia Gardens. I've been walking those trails since my kids were small. The last few times I went I discovered things I had never seen before. It is a perfect place for nature hikes with the kids.

Gorgeous, quiet trail that won't disappoint. The scenery looks like a storybook. No admission fees. Very enjoyable.

I took my teenaged grandkids for a visit. They enjoyed the walk and pathways. The staircase is steep. The views are awesome. Black Creek is lovely. The grounds are well maintained and so clean. The parking is nice too. There is an area many use...More

Recently, we had a family drive over to Kalmia with daughter and grandchildren. One in stroller. Late February there were lovely sasanqua and japonica camellias, although some had been nipped by Feb. frost. The Japanese quinces were in bloom, daffodils, winter honeysuckle (attracting honeybees, Yay!),...More

During our visit to Hartsville for a wedding, we stopped by Kalmia Gardens. Highly recommend a visit if you like nature and outdoors. Places for a picnic and a nice photo shoot.

Beautiful grounds! With 1.5 to 3+ acres to walk or ride your bike. Go with comfortable shoes and clothing as it gets pretty humid the deeper you go into the trails.

We stopped by since our hotel was only 6 minutes away and the Sandhills Wildlife Refuge was a disappointment. The Kalmia Gardens has so many paths and nooks with flowers (most dying since we visited October 2017). No wildlife to be seen except for a...More

Love to walk and explore at Kalmia Gardens. The boardwalk goes over Black Creek and also follows it, allowing you to get an up-close view of a true cypress swamp and flowing creek habitat.

There are benches along trail but no trash cans and no picnic tables. I do not think it would be good to plan to picnic. You need to bring out all your trash regardless, or it won't remain the lovely place it is. BTW it is... More

I just saw your question. My wife and I did not see any gators. It is a lovely place for a walk. Most of it is easy. The stairs up to the house is the most challenging part!
