Our driver/narrator was very personable & knowledgeable about HH Island & the Gullah people (his family owns & operates the tours) Unfortunately, aside from a few modest homes and... read more

Enjoyed the tour and the information that was shared. Great history lesson. My uncle is a descendant of the Gullah Heritage. We met some veru nice people from Canada. My mother-in-law is traveling to Canada next month.

So I got interested in Gullah culture when Candace Glover was on American Idol. Three years ago we visited the Penn Center on St. Helena. While that was a fascinating place it felt like something was missing, a real conversation with a real person about the community. This was it! Our guide Melvin didn't just show us places, he opened... More

Our guide was actually a Gullah and took us to the neighborhoods and churches of the Gullah people. He was very knowledgeable and explained everything the entire tour. A must see!!

I so much enjoyed this excellent tour and learning the history of the Gullah people in Hilton Head. Our tour director had extensive knowledge of this history and also grew up there. This tour was informative and entertaining as well. I was comfortable on the bus, too!

We really enjoyed our tour with Gullah Heritage tours, Morris was engaging and well informed. We had a large group, so they brought in another bus and driver, no worries about not getting a seat. It was a two hour tour with a break in the middle to walk around and see some historic placques. Well worth the cost of... More

Our driver/narrator was very personable & knowledgeable about HH Island & the Gullah people (his family owns & operates the tours) Unfortunately, aside from a few modest homes and churches, very little remains in the Gullah "neighborhoods" to be seen, as the island has undergone radical changes in the last 50-60 years. A short stop at a Gullah market selling... More

Melvin was our tour guide and was very informative, fun and interactive with all of us on the tour. This tour gives you and idea of the African culture as it was in Hilton Head before the Civil War. It also gives you a sense of how that culture continued to remain true to itself while the world around it... More

Since the island has changed so much from a Gullah community to a golf resort it is difficult to picture the personal narration of the guide. We passed but did not stop at a Gullah cemetary, one room schoolhouse, Gullah museum house and area for freed slaves to establish a town. Bus did stop at a beach park to let... More

I am so thankful of having the opportunity to meet Mr. Campbell and learn of the Gullah people. My husband and I felt that the history of the Gullah Heritage is preserved in part by the Gullah guides who told of their own personal accounts of growing up Gullah and the effects of gentrifying Gullah land. A must see...we will... More

When you are at Hilton Head Island you are in the midst of Gullah traditions, families and so much history. Don't miss the Gullah Heritage Trail Tours....a wonderful, informative and fun two hours. Our driver and 'spokesperson' was Irvin Campbell - born and raised in the area - he shared with us personal stories as well as the overall history... More
