Beers: to go or not to go

Cool local spot for good beers and good times with friends. Pup friendly. You can bike there from Sullivans.

Like visiting a friend who happens to have lots of great beers on tap
Jan 2020
This is an older ranch-style house that has been turned into a bar. About 10-15 craft beers on tap. Occasionally they have some folks there who will cook excellent cheeseburgers for you, but usually it's just beer - not that this is a bad thing. They have lots of tables outside too, it can get a little stuffy inside since it is a small and cozy place. Very laid back. Dog friendly. I would not bring small children here, there is nothing for them to do. Get a sitter and enjoy yourself.

I’ve been to lots of bars around the world and this ranks highly
Oct 2019 • Friends
I have been lucky enough to travel around the world and visit many many bars. Today’s visit to the house of Brews was amongst one of the best I have ever had and the bar ranks amongst one of my favourites ever. How to define that?
The selection of beers was world class. The ambience and the conversation was great whatever your politics and everyone entered into the spirit of an an old style beer without TVs and artificial stimulation. Rob the Barman/owner was the ultimate host and had an encyclopaedic knowledge of the beers. Only problem is fear of missing out because you can’t taste all the beers you want to if you need to walk out!!

Tried out this place just by chance, finding it dog friendly with a wide selection of beers. Nice people, and good for meeting new friends.

Fantastic selection with really cool outdoor beer garden. Lots of cold beer available to go & some great local options on draft. Don’t miss this place and the great folks who work there!

Wife and I stopped here on Sunday. The place sits in the back. It can be hard to find and if you're not paying attention. The place is a little house. My wife was a little nervous at first. However, it's a really cool place, especially for guys. Not a place you would take a girl out for a date (unless she's really into beer). They only serve beer. They have a wide selection of great beers. The guy working there was really cool. They don't sell food so eat before you go there. I would definitely go back.

Fun spot with great beer selection
Jan 2016
Hidden gem with a neat set up. Converted old house now has a tap bar with some of the best local and beyond beers you would want. Plus a great selection of bottled and canned beers. The lounging area is great but the place is even better when warm as the yard is set for games and socializing.

Great Spot
Jul 2015 • Friends
This is one of my favorite Mt. Pleasant spots! There are so many beer options and the bartenders are great. They take the time to know your name and really make good beer recommendations. Not to mention the beer garden is one of a kind!

Oasis for the Beer Connoisseur
Sep 2014 • Couples
We went here about an hour before closing - 10 PM. Its a house immediately off Ben Sawyer that looks like anything BUT a beer pub. In fact, we saw the sign and then saw no lights in the windows, so we almost left. The actual beer pub is behind the house, through the road/alley. I know it sounds weird - but isn't that the way of many absolutely great places... I am glad we decided to check out the little road!

This place is all about beer. They have several beers on tap, and none are the same day after day. Once a tap runs dry, a different keg is put on. You will not find Budweiser or other commerical beers on these taps, or so the look the bartender gave me when I asked, told me. The selection was remarkable, when one includes the bottled beer that was available. The bartenders were extremely knowledgable about the craft, and could go into not only the difference between, say beer and ale, but the weights, the type of hops used, etc. It was kind of like drinking at one of the microbreweries around town, but with a much better selection.

The outside area was well worth checking out. Many of we wannabe beer connoisseurs had to grow up, had kids, etc. The place is actually kid friendly, with giant jenga and a large assortment of toys for the kids to enjoy while the parents enjoy their adult beverage. They often have live music on the weekends and food trucks have been known to make an appearance.

The great thing about this place is that those of us that have an interest in beer can go here, hang out, and ask questions of the craft from those in the know. Furthermore, these guys really love their beer and the scene surrounding their craft. They know when the festivals are on and seemed to know with the local brewers anyway, the new releases that were coming out, etc. Finally, I was very impressed with the knowledge of the types of beer demonstrated by the staff. While I cannot say that I completely understand the different types of hops, and what that does to a beer, it was explained to me and I really appreciated it.

Worth a visit!!!!

Cool dive for beer
Aug 2014 • Solo
I use dive in the fondest of ways! This is an old house converted to serve beer. Great experience enjoying my beer outside meeting new people. I am new to the Charleston Area and this was a great time finding out about the beer scene in the area.
