We did the entire 109 miles, didn't want to carry our gear. So, we booked a wonderful home in Hill City and did the trail in 3 legs. The first leg was from Edgemont to Minnekahta and back. (About 16.2 miles one way and 32.4...More

One of the best days ever! We rode from Mystic to Rochford, it was an easy ride - well maintained with beautiful scenery, we even passed a small waterfall - stop at Moonshine Gulch in Rochford if you can for a quick beer.

Beautifully maintained. Stunning ride away from traffic and noise. A little piece of heaven with a gentle 8 mile downhill into Deadwood. No trash. Water along the way..but bring extra because they might run out. Very gentle uphills. Small gravel. Don't bring a road bike....More

What a great trail! I look forward to biking here each time we come to the Black Hills. One of the nice things about this trail is the not too terrible grade. If you spend time biking up you will be sure to be rewarded...More

This is a wonderful, well kept, 109 mile trail, with a slight 4% grade overall - suitable for all kinds of travel. The scenery is beautiful and diverse. There are ample ( stop areas ) along the trail, with clean rest rooms.

I visited the Black Hills with my family last weekend. We had never been to the area before and didn't know much about it ahead of time. I discovered this trail, where I went for a run out of the town of Custer. The surface...More

The Mickelson Trail is one of our favorite things in the Black Hills. You can walk, run, snowshoe, cross country ski, bicycle and ride horseback on this great trail. A former railroad, most sections have a 4% grade. Trail is well marked and well maintained...More

Both are great but riding north from Hill City is your better option if you're looking for incredible scenery. Depending on how much you wanted to ride going from Hill City to Rochford and back is, in my opinion, the most... More
