To some, we are a Native American art gallery; to others, we are a trading post reminiscent of days gone by. On the corner of 6th Street and Main in downtown Rapid City, Prairie Edge stands two stories high and stretches out for half a block as a brick, wood, and glass storefront that has been restored to its original 19th century glory. Inside, the hardwood floors and polished cabinetry bring to mind the spirit of the Old West, while the distinct smell of sweetgrass and soft sound of a Lakota flute evoke the mystique of the Plains Indian culture.

When we are in Rapid City we like to stop here. Not only to buy the Huckleberry Jam but to look around. You will get a mini history lesson by some of the items they sell. A very good stop while downtown. The location is perfect as well.

The only place in town where you can buy beads by the pound (but it will co$t you big). They have buffalo robes for sale. All kinds of real and fake regalia. Staircases all over the place lend an escher-esche atmosphere. Huge college of powwow CD's and a good collection of classic books. A little room on the east end... More

Elegant, enchanting, and full of art and culture. It was like stepping into a different world. And it is a source for Native American art supplies for those into beading and Native art. There is an Italian bead library with aisles of beautiful jars of all colors and shapes. And amazing local art. A must see in RC!

Even if you do not buy anything, the looking is so much fun. Truly unique items with great display and background by the Native artists. This is not a trinket shop so do not expect the 99 cent Indian (made in China) tourist junk. However, you can still pick up inexpensive items especially in the craft materials area for all... More

This is an amazing store with beautiful things for purchase, from very inexpensive to very extravagant. Great souvenirs, artwork, clothing, gadgets, with a strong Native American twist. Terrific staff is eager to help you

This store had so many choices of whatever you would be looking for that it takes a while to choose what you want but you can enjoy the looking. The prices were very reasonable and the clerks were very helpful but not pushy.

I have always enjoy the Prairie Edge but it seems to me they have reorganized their displays and everything seems more accessible. Books are all downstairs, art is upstairs, art is also downstairs, more beads, more blankets, more items to smudge. Just a great place to browse and learn about new artists working in traditional and modern ways.

We walked thru this store I don't know how many times. There was so much artwork, knick-knacks, and beads to look at. We ended up purchasing books and artwork. The employees were helpful and they had a large selection of everything.

In fact, many of the pieces up for sale would look right at home in a museum. Wonderful material. Much of it is locally produced.
