This museum is quite literally under the driveway/street of Sanford Hospital. So if you can find Sanford Hospital, it's easy from there. You can either go into the main lobby of the hospital and take the elevator down, or a 'shortcut' (if you can do stairs) is to park in the Vandemark Building parking lot and go into the little... This is a very interesting museum dedicated to the history of medicine in the Sioux Falls and eastern South Dakota area. Tools, uniforms, treatments and care were all outlined and it is wonderful to see how far medicine has come. Sioux Falls has become a "medical mecca" with 3 major health care facilities as well as the branch-offs from each.... More

Very interesting to see the medical tools of another era...and yet, I recognized items that are still being used in today's medicine. Price is right - free! and helpful volunteers(?) to answer questions.

Museum is in the basement of the Sanford Hospital complex. Hard to find but well worth the effort. Staffed usually by very knowledgeable, retired health care workers, it has a variety of medical equipment used in days gone by...including an iron lung.

Our family absolutely loved our visit to this small museum. Ardeth - one of the lovely volunteers- took us on a tour of the whole museum and told great stories of her work as a nurse and the history of different devices in the museum! What a lovely lady.

Not easy to locate if one's not familiar with the location. It's under ground. But actually it is easy to find if you're a local. Or, ask a knowledgeable local. Because it's one of the least known treasures in this town.
