Very good concept for a memorial, rich in history and battleship facts.

You might just drive by this memorial, but it is truly fascinating. Go into the museum and watch the 30 min video on the history of the Battleship. We spent almost 2 hours there. Very nice displays and artifacts inside the museum.

I happen to believe in America, what we are and what we have done for the world. Everyone, especially children, should get a good dose of WWII history because this was our greatest generation and depicts a time when America's very best came together and showed the world what bravery, duty, sacrifice and determination could do. You can actually get... More

My team and I stopped here on a whirlwind geocaching dash to the northern states. This memorial caught our eye as we have a friend at work that had a grandpa serve on this ship. Found some nice geocaches nearby and had fun watching a festival in the park that day.

A rather abstract memorial to one of the iron ships of yesterday. It uses some abstract characteristics but pretty cool overall. Only takes a little while to view.

I'm a big military history guy, so I had to make a stop in to see the USS South Dakota Memorial. The building was closed by the time we got there, but I walked all around and got pictures. I like the way that they created the concrete wall in the shape and size of the actual battleship. It gives... More

Great for kids to be able explore and see the real size of something like this. Really a neat way for Midwestern kids to get the idea of what a battleship is.

Very nicely done museum/memorial to the USS South Dakota. I loved all of the pictures of the ship in action.

A continuous concrete curb outlines the size and shape of the battleship South Dakota. Within the outline are some cut-off barrel stubs in concrete, a radar antenna, anchor with chain, the ship main mast and a large brass propeller. All these and a small museum building, have been there for years. A fairly new addition is a complete actual 16... More

I have been by here many times, but never seemed to have the time to stop. Decided to stop in for a few minutes. The displays and staff did a great job giving me a snapshot of the ships history and importance. If you get a chance, stop in.
