    Worth the drive!
Highly recommend this drive! We're fans of the movie "Dances with Wolves" and they used the canyon for one of the scenes. There's signs, just follow them. We also got to see a family of mountain goats and a few pretty waterfalls. Beware, there's others that take this drive and a lot of the pull offs are crowded.

    Wonderful drive, very scenic
Great little side trip. You should plan on anywhere from 2 hrs to all day depending on what activities you want to do. We were there mostly for the waterfalls and in a bit of a hurry so we did not do much of the trails. Bridal Veil is right next to the road with a nice pull out. Spearfish Falls looks cool if you take the 2 mile round trip walk to the bottom and back. You can't see anything from the restaurant parking lot. Roughlock was very cool. Bring binoculars and you can watch the giant rainbow trout swimming around in the pools at the bottom.

Spearfish Canyon, a relatively unknown gem!
Was driving from Rapid City to Medora and stopped to get a quick bite. I was having a nice convo with the waitress who was raised in Spearfish, and she suggested I drive to Spearfish Canyon on my way out of town. Wow! I did this and was pleasantly surprised with the sights, to include a nice waterfall. Everyone I talked with was so friendly, and they told me they were driving through in a car this time but usually are riding a Harley.

Driving Alongside the Spearfish Canyon Scenic Byway
Great trip. We arrived at approximately 12:30 pm and started driving the Spearfish Canyon Scenic Byway. The length of the road was roughly 22 miles. We were able to see picturesque views of several cliffs as we drove down the road, along with various forms of wildlife. There were several stops along the way that we took, including to view the Bridal Veil Falls, hike the devils bathtub, and to admire the Spearfish falls. Each of these attractions had a small parking lot to pull into. Tip: I recommend spending 3 hours driving the byway and stopping at the three stops mentioned above.

    nice drive
A very nice road to kill some time on the way from Devils Tower to Rapid City. We found the three major waterfalls, two were well hidden, do your research before you go. The road is at the bottom of the canyon, no cliffs to run off while looking at the scenery. As a side note, follow the road to Lead SD and visit the open pit mine, its free. 41 million ounces of gold came up from that hole and its shafts.

This drive is always on our road trips in the area. The views are amazing, the waterfalls and creek are beautiful and there are plenty of stops and pull outs to enjoy nature.

Beautiful views of the Black Hills. I like the drive through Custer State Park better, but this one was free! We stopped several times for photos and a picnic lunch.

Just gorgeous! We went first thing in the morning and noticed that the pull-offs started filling up around 10:30am. This was my favorite part of the Black Hills.

Scenic views with lots of wild life. We did this ride twice on our trip we loved it so much. Take your time and enjoy the scenery. Go slow on the turns especially on a bike.

Seeing the waterfall was the best, but it was a beautiful scenic drive. Highly recommend. We saw some people hiking to the falls and in our younger days we might have.
