We booked a snorkeling and island tour in March 2014. The boat ride to this island was long (about 1.5 hours) and rough. It's not for the fainted heart, but my 10-yrs old daughter has no problem with the boat ride. The snorkel at the natural reef was not that good, because we went on the day right after a... More

This was the highlight of my trip. It's a protected island so you can only see 10% on a day trip but that's what makes it special. One of the most beautiful beaches I've been to and really interesting on the conservation side. Take mossie spray though... they are vicious!

My favourite part of my trip to Mexico. First of all it is a natural treasure as not many people visit it, it is also small and has a verity of animals. The view is truly breathtaking and unique. This island is perfect to simply relax and enjoy life.

We booked a trip here through Thomson while staying at Grand Bahia Principe Akumal and they use Ocean Tours who are based at several Caribbean locations. The first issue for me was the fact that the continental breakfast had nothing that was gluten free except fruit despite the Thomson rep telling them I required food. The other issue that is... We decided to take a trip to Isla Contoy today and had a great time. We came over by boat from Isla Mujeres to Cancun. We were served Breakfast and taken by not to snorkel a reef off of Cancun. We then went to Isla Contoy and our boat guide gave us a nice tour of the island (where tourists... More

ive been there twice, 8 years in between each visit, it hasnt been damaged or changed, its gorgeous, you can walk trought beach áreas with no polution at all, surrended by palm trees mangrove and a shore reef formation nearby, you can visit the fishermen museum, dont forget to go to the light house .

A definite must do. This place is literally paradise. We went snorkelling too prior to arriving on the island which was amazing but a word of warning....the steps to get back on to the boat are a little tricky.
