Good exhibition about the history of cold digging in Finnish Lapland. The adjoining exhibition explains history of cold mining around the word. Next door to the museum is Tankavaara cold village, where you can try out cold digging yourself.

This museum charges 12 euros to enter which is rather expensive and another 8 euros topan for gold. It is rather old and is interesting to see but not worth the price

We planned to have our lunch in the restaurant near the museum. When we arrived we first visited the museum of which the greater part is in the open air. Most I liked were the rails of the little train which transported the minerals and miners to and from their working places. The cottages and rebuilt wooden buildings are funny but didn't realy touch the cultural part of my heart. The little shops at "Nugget Square" were closed but nevertheless exposed their minerals such as Amethist, Quartz etc. and tiny gold chips as well as some souvenirs on tables before the shops. Payment in the cash container. A little further they show a little cottage built from empty glass bottles. Good for 20 minutes relaxed walking and looking around. 3/5

A pretty detailed account of gold prospecting locally and around the world world. Some interesting artefacts and displays. There are also outside exhibits, though it was rather cold to linger too long! We'd only stopped for the cafe initially but that isn't in the museum itself. Interpretation mainly in English and Finnish but noticed other languages on certain exhibits.

A fantastic museum not only about gold mining on Finland, but all over the world. Especially great in winter, as there are no mosquitoes to snack on you. Make sure to try gold panning yourself - it is great fun!
