About
On display at the Coal Creek Miners Museum is the rich history of the miners that lived, worked and died in Coal Creek, Fraterville and Briceville, Tennessee. You will learn how the "free" miners fought against the convict lease system and about a community that not only survived one mining disaster but two that killed almost every man in the community and young boys too.

Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

This is a wonderful place.
There currently doing construction to add more artifacts.
The Lady is very nice & helpful. @ the desk
We took the auto tour. Some places are not marked. Looks forgotten.
If you get lost or on wrong road locals are very helpful.
Looking forward to going back in the fall.

The film was an excellent overview of the struggles the minors had in the mines and in the communities. There were many artifacts of the minors. You saw script that was used to pay the minors and they in turn used them to pay rent and purchase at the company store. It told of the strike to keep the convicts from taking their jobs.

This is a small place but has good, accurate information on the coal mines in the area. There is a short film that tells the story of the 2 major mine explosions in the area and how the miners put prison workers back on the train and sent them back to Knoxville. The volunteer was excellent and gave me a map to find areas where history has happened. Go find the cannon and find our why it was aimed at the town. Pretty harrowing narrow road but worth it. Free but donations highly recommended.

If you want to stretch your legs & have an hour of less to spare this is a little stop. There is nothing else around to see. The tiny lil town really needs revitalizing. I would only make a special trip if you are a coal miner history fan. The museum is one big room.

We visited the museum in September on our way to Pigeon Forge. Coming from Wales, we have an interest in the coal mining industry. The museum is well presented and the curator was excellent. I'm looking forward to seeing the museum again in May, and all the friends that I've made there

Although I live not far away from this museum, I learned a lot of local history here that I didn't know about. Good displays and artifacts from the coal mines, a nice video overview of the history,, interesting stories - and sad tales of the outcome. Easy to find location and currently on one level, so easy access. It could all be viewed in less than one hour, but we talked a good bit with the host about various local events. Well worth a visit.

We visited this museum and were very impressed and very pleased. There is a short documentary to watch and many displays and pictures throughout. The volunteer working the day we were there was VERY knowledgeable and walked with us throughout the museum and told us lots of information about what we were seeing as well as the area and her ancestors. It was great. The museum is free but please make a donation. They are currently opening their 2nd floor for displays.
