- KyFlynnMunich, Germany1,992 contributionsInteresting tourI had a tour that lasted about an hour, leading through the museum with lots of pieces that were used back then. The guide even showed how they were used. We then walked out where he put the water wheel into action before we headed towards the crop field where we walked into one of the mills. The other sadly wasn’t accessible during my visit, but we looked at it from the outside. Afterwards we stopped by the café there, where we had soup and drinks. The coffee was good, the soup was sadly a bit bland, but it’s a nice café and obviously popular among the locals.Visited May 2023Travelled soloWritten 7 October 2023

A delightful tour guided by Gavin who told of his family's links to the Mills over several generations. Brunch at the cafe was absolutely lovely too. Learned so much of the early history of Skerries, monks, windmills, and milling. Highly recommend the guided tour. Entered both windmills and even got to see the opening of the millrace and waterwheel working.Visited December 2023Travelled as a coupleWritten 20 December 2023

Our guide Paddy was so informative and able to keep the young kids and non English speaking grandmother engaged! Really interesting museum tour takes just under an hour and beautiful spot with pretty gardens and view of the sea. Good playground too.Visited July 2024Travelled with familyWritten 8 July 2024

The mill wasn't operational at the time we were there, but that was due to water levels. Regardless, it was cool. The tea and scones were very good as well.Visited July 2024Travelled with friendsWritten 5 August 2024

We went here for lunch with a group and it was very disappointing. The service was terrible, we waited ages for our food and some items were missing, No apologies but the waitress almost blamed us for their mistakes. She said there was only one person in the kitchen (not our fault) and she was very rude and grumpy. The food was disappointing also, brown bread not fresh. All in all this was my worst experience of eating out in a long time and I would advise everybody to avoid. They really need to get a better system going and menu too big.

Hi Bernadette, I understand your group thoroughly enjoyed their tour yesterday. I am very sorry that the Café let you down afterwards. Unfortunately we had no booking for your group at lunch time. Thank you for bringing it to my attention that items were missing and that someone was terribly rude, this is not the norm in the Watermill Café and completely unacceptable. Thank you for all your feedback which I assure you is being responded to. Our Café is very popular and renowned for value and a friendly atmosphere, once again I am sorry that this was not your experience.

We've known about the mills for a while, but never had a chance to visit and didn't really know what to expect.
We booked on to a tour and were delighted to have a tour with just the four of us. It was one of the most enjoyable and interesting tours we've ever been on. We really enjoyed the pace, not spending too long in any one area, but being given quirky and interesting facts about the dozens of stops on the tour. We got to see the water wheel working and to go into both of the windmills. The tour covered the fascinating history of not only the mills but also the area. You certainly get an insight into how tough it would have been and the importance the mill was to the community.
Visited the shop, which was reasonably priced and well stocked.
Ended our visit with a stop in the cafe. The cheesecake was HUGE and delicious, the scone was average and the coffee was undrinkable!
Would definitely recommend as a really different and interesting part of a visit to Skerries.

Don't know about the mill tour, but would avoid the restaurant at the moment. Waited nearly an hour after ordering our meal with a very grumpy server. Sandwich missing part of order. When chips arrived first lot were still frozen!! Second lot were cold!! Finally got nice hot chips. Manager did her best, refunded our money and gave us free dessert. Seemingly new to Mills, would avoid until they bed in. I would never normally complain as hospitality not an easy job,but this wax beyond belief!!

We called in just by chance as we saw signposts to The Mill. Definitely worth a visit. Tour guide around the Mill was excellent. Really knew his stuff. Was only 7 euros for the tour. Really worth it. Loads to see including two windmills and a working water wheel. You even get inside one of the windmills. Also a great shop and coffee shop on site too.

You can walk to or park at the mills. You can walk around the two windmills, water mill and coffee shop for free. You certainly don't have to book and it's a very pleasant way to spend an hour or two. There is a guided tour where a guy takes visitors around the mills and relates the history. There is a charge for this, can't remember how much but it wasn't excessive. I don't know when the guided tours are put on but they probably have a website or e-mail address that would tell you. If you're visiting the area go see Ardgillan Castle in Balbgiggan too.
