Fabulous views over unspoilt Irish countryside, patchwork like fields below. Great place for the kids to play hide and seek in the castle ruins. A place you would never tire of revisiting.

Located just off the main Portlaoise to Stradbally road lies the Rock of Dunamase. Here you will find the ruins of Dunamase Castle, a defensive stronghold dating from the early Hiberno-Norman period with panaramic views across the Slieve Bloom Mountains. Also for anyone interested in Geocaching it might be worth taking a look at your map atop this beauty! You... More

Always a favourite of ours. Only a minute off main Portlaoise to Stradbally road. Great place to take visitors and photos. Fab at sunrise or sunset. Wrap up if it's windy and enjoy.

It's not far from the train station. Hired a car to transport me on narrow lanes. Time was tight and this was suggested as the # 1 best thing to do. It was! Very interesting ruins, arches, views and peaceful countryside.

The scenery, the stunning views, the colours you get on a cloudless days and quite stunning. It can give you that eerie feeling as watch the crown enmass fly around parts of the castle ruins. You...
