NOT TO BE MISSED FOR THE EXPERIENCED HORSE PERSON!
I booked a trip (called Wild Atlantic) a bit last minute as I was going to be in Northern Ireland for a family thing. I used Zara's Planet to find Ursula and Island View. I had a FANTASTIC week. I will definitely be back.
At first glance the stables (yard) seem modest. What is most important are the horses are amazingly well cared for, Ursula is a natural horsewoman and their team of guides are knowledgeable, kind and super fun!
I would recommend this ride for those that are experienced. At a minimum, you should be able to walk, trot and canter with ease. (If not there is a Mix and Match program where you can have some lessons and go on some more quiet rides). You will all be evaluated and given a suitable horse. The West coast of Ireland is rugged and the horses are sure footed and and sound. The stable boasts its own "private island" (true! ) and at low tide you ride across and get to see their mares and foals and other horses that may be having a rest out happily grazing on the island.
Each day was a different ride (two different islands) -- a ride to a famous castle and even up a mountain.
You are treated like family and if you care for horses as much as they do, you're likely to have a stellar ride.
I've been riding all my life, but have never been a fan of galloping fast. On one of the beaches (that seems miles long) -- I was given the opportunity to really gallop fully ( my guide's horse was not as fast ) so there I was galloping off down the beach! It was so fun I cried tears of joy at the end. The mare I was on was totally fine, took care of me and has now made me a lover of gallops on the beach.
I stayed at the B&B (the lookout) which also has 2 self-catering apartments which I highly recommend -- Joe, the host was a hoot and very accommodating. If you are riding with Island View I highly recommend the "Lookout" apartments over the hotel in town. The view of the horses grazing and the island never got old.
And, no joke, I saw 4 rainbows in one week! If that's not the luck of the Irish, I don't know what is!
Fabulous, rugged horses - totally knowledgeable and kind horsepeople.
A one of a kind experience. Thank you, Ursula and team! (I'll let you hear about the Irish-German love story on-site.

Had the best time. Booked a 2 hour beach ride for myself as a treat. The girl who took my trek was lovely and easy to talk to. Poppy was my horse and she was so nice to ride with a good temperament! Would recommend fo anyone and hope to come back again soon!

We had a great experience for our 1 hour horse riding on the beach. Amazing views on the beach and the gorgeous autumnal weather helped. The team were very helpful and really well organised.

We went horse riding this week for an hour and my daughter 10 and I enjoyed it. The horses were very calm, and there were a number of staff on hand when we went down to the beach. Would totally recommend it.

What a fantastic experience... We're just back from a gentle stroll/trot on the beach, it was on my bucket list for a long time and my hubby surprised me with that gift on a wild and rain-battered day, it couldn't have been better, he was very brave (first time rider) and I was very scared (hadn't been on a horse in 30 years, it's not exactly like a bike, you tend to forget the height of them!!!) Jessica my horse was a good match, but mainly the Team and especially the instructors were very professional, you feel like both the staff and animals are happy there. We felt very safe despite the dreadful weather, I always heard that the wind made the horses very nervous, but they were well kept in check by the instructors at all times. Can only recommend whatever your level or abilities, the magic of the beach will remind with us for a long time. We'll be back on a calmer sunny day for a gallop!

Hi, Experienced riders can of course ride at a faster pace than beginners, provided we are happy that the rider is safe to go at this speed. All our rides are guided so the guides will assess the riders and decide how fast the individual should go. If you are an experienced rider with a secure seat and can demonstrate that you can manage the horse and the horse is comfortable with you then yes no worries about going faster. But in the interest of safety and horse welfare we don't rent out horses unless there is one of our guides present on the ride.

hi , We have a maximum weight limit of 220 pounds or 16 stone.
Hi I am hoping to go horse riding some time this year and would love to ride a horse on the beach. I would like to know how much it would cost per person to do this and are there buses that go directly to the stables? Thank you 😊

hi .
Thanks for your enquiry.
Its €28 for adults gor a 1hour trek and we do anything from 1 hour up to 5hours. Our website has a listing of all the different rides complete with a short description. The most popular Treks are the 1 hour beach ride or the 2hour beach and bog ride.
You can book by phone (tel 00353719166156) or use the booking form on our website . If booking less than 3 or 4 days in advance please book by phone .
There is a bus service (480 and 64) that passes the stables several times a day. the 480 bus will stop outside the stables on request , the 64 only if you get a very friendly driver . If the bus driver wont stop at the stables please get a ticket to the nearest village (Grange or Cliffoney) and phone us from there and we will collect you there free of charge.
Let us know when booking that you are coming out on public Transport and we can coordinate the time of your ride with the bus times.
We look forward to meeting you .
Best regards, Ursula
