Recently I have been visiting interesting historical places in Wexford. I would have to agree 100% that the tour makes this place come alive aswell as getting access to the views from the top. Well worth a visit and pop to the graveyard and smallest Catherdral in Europe all on your doorstep in Ferns.

From the outside Ferns Castle looks like any other castle ruins, but take a tour with the excellent tour guides and they'll bring the local history alive. There's so much more to see when you walk in through the unassuming gates! I live locally and had never taken the time to visit. I was so impressed, and it's totally free!!

Impressive structure but only a couple of the walls remain. They must be 8 foot thick! The Castle is nicely preserved behind a small walled park. Worth a visit and a short stop when touring around Wexford.

It would seem to me that the best sites in Wexford are the free ones. This, along with Ballyhack, is well worth a visit. Tons of information given by very friendly and knowedgeable staff. Great facilities and you left feeling you really learnt something about the site and local area.

Not a big castle but a must just for the tour, the guide was very friendly and so funny his manner and jokes made the visit. Worth a visit if you was in that area.

A must visit if you are anywhere near this historic castle. Larry Smith was our guide ( all free ) He was a brilliant guide, very funny, very informative, gave us a massive amount of information on the history of Ferns Castle & the history of Ireland. What a view over the countryside from the tower. Really worth a visit

The ruins of Ferns Castle (constructed in the 1200s) were only a short walk into town. Roughly half the structure remains. The most interesting detail was the massive stone fireplace mantel hanging along one wall. The inside of the castle once supported wooden buildings and rooms but they were long gone. You can only imagine the conversations and scenes illuminated... More

Ferns castle is a must stop over during your trip to Wexford. The guides are enthusiast and genuinely want your experience of this ancient castle to be one to remember. There is also a fantastic tapestry display in the visitor centre with a book showing how each piece was planned and carried out. The fact that the tapestries were done... More

What is left of Ferns Castle dominates a site near the center of the village. Admission is free, and tours run periodically throughout the day. Our tour guide was filled with knowledge about the castle, its history, how the rooms were once used, why and when it was built, destroyed, rebuilt, and destroyed over the centuries. One can climb the... More
