Beautiful House and Gardens - quirky interiors - NOT TO BE MISSED
Top attraction! Stunning house and furnishings and a guide to explain Victor Hugo's intentions etc. Only criticism our guide spoke English very fast with a french accent and softish voice so didn't catch everything she said.

    Stunning.!
Chatting to a couple of local ladies who had been sea swimming, one of them said 'you must go to Victor Hugo's house', so that's where I went. Only guided tours are allowed and I hadn't booked but there was space on next tour so I joined in. Wow ....the house was stunning, every room different, weird and amazing. The tour guide imparted lots of information about the house and Victor Hugo plus answering our questions and giving us, we'll me, chance to take lots of photos. I now need to visit his house on Paris.

    Fascinating house with history
Victor Hugo lived here for 15 years and transformed the whole house during that time and each room is amazing in it's own way. Book ahead to avoid disappointment as this is always busy I believe. Our tour guide was excellent.

    Terrific
What a fascinating place. It’s the house where Victor Hugo lived for 15 years in exile from France. The interior has many floors and the rooms are decorated in different styles. Wow…. what a melange of fabrics and designs. He certainly let rip! The French, English speaking, guide who escorted us round delivered an interesting commentary. Not a dull moment. Beautifully kept garden. Don’t miss this historic place. Pre-booking advised.

    Totally fascinating!
Excellent tour of this fascinating house, with well-informed and kindly guides. Beautifully run. You learn so much from this tour: about Victor Hugo, his thinking, his family, and his time in Guernsey. And the garden is beautiful too, with lovely views of Castle Cornet and beyond. Tours are available in both English and French. There are lockers for bags and a small shop with books, cards, etc. It is a steep climb to get there, so allow plenty of time, though you can stop off to get your breath back at the Victorian Shop part-way up the hill. Highly recommended.

This quirky house is fascinating to visit. However the guided tour would have been much better if the Guide ( French trying to speak in English) had better pronunciation and did not speak so fast and jerkily, resulting in my inability to understand most of what he was saying. Hardly anyone in the group took the opportunity to ask him questions as clearly they did not expect to understand the answer!

The garden was not interesting or well kept. The house was interesting, lots of contradictions such dark rooms and light rooms, heavy decoration and delicate. We were surprised that all of the French staff spoke perfect English except our guide, the entire group struggled to understand him. He also was not prepared to explain the major contradiction in Victore Hugo's life between family and his renown for extra marital affairs, especially the role of his long term mistress. It could have been a better experience, especially at £12 each.

Beautifully situated house with views all the way to France. The house is full of surprises from the views from the garden, through each floor. We learned a lot more about Victor Hugo that we knew, and now need to read up about him. Highly recommended. Make sure that you book in advance.

Visited on a day trip and found the whole house fascinating. Definitely book in advance to avoid disappointment! we did about 2 hours before from the tourist information centre and there were still 3 places for us. Ended up costing £22 for an adult and a student, and was free for under 18s!! Great value for money as there was plenty to see and ended up taking around an hour to see the whole house. Our guide Marie was extremely knowledgeable, friendly, and more than happy to answer any questions we had. It made the whole experience just really enjoyable! Would highly recommend even for non- victor hugo fans! Was lovely spending 10 minutes relaxing in the garden afterwards with lovely views! There is also one toilet to use.

This was Victor Hugo’s house while he was exile. It is so unusual with an eclectic collection of styles. Some of the would work use large table legs and panels from sideboards. The house is still owned by the French and so it was a wonderful French guid who took us around the house explaining everything to us.

Our very favourite thing we did on our recent trip to Guernsey. It was a fabulous tour from start to finish. Lovely staff especially our guide Delphine who is knowledgeable and delightful. She provided chairs for those who were unable to stand for long periods of time enabling my friend to enjoy her visit too. This property is very eclectric and totally charming. It really gave me an insight into Victor Hugo. Totally fascinating. The stairs can be challenging for those less mobile but we were encouraged to take it at our pace. A must see....will definately visit again.
