About
An 800 year old Castle that boasts incredible views of the whole East coast of Guernsey and across to the other islands of Herm, Sark and Alderney. Steeped in history that includes the English Civil War and the German Occupation during the Second World War. There are four museums: The Story of Castle Cornet; 201 Squadron Museum; RGLI Museum and Militia Museum. There is a free tour at 10.30 on most days and a daily noon-day gun firing of a 32 pound cannon by a gunner dressed in the traditional 19th century redcoat of the Royal Guernsey Militia. Ideal for families there are free castle trails and activities. A cafe selling refreshments and light lunches and a gift shop selling a wide range of gifts and souvenirs will complete your visit.

This stunning castle is a real focal point on St Peter Port promenade and can be seen from far away. The admission of £11 each for adults is very reasonable for the time spent exploring this exciting piece of history. Follow the free map, just wander or take a guided tour but there is so much to see and you can easily spend a couple of hours exploring. It's history goes back to the Civil War and the occupation by the Germans during WW2. There are four museums within the walls to go into and the large cannon is fired every day by a gunner dressed in appropriate uniform. Add in a cafe and gift shop, it all makes for a fantastic experience.

Haven’t visited for a long time so on my staycation we visited and not disappointed greeted with friendly helpful staff who told you where various places were to go and look at
Plenty to see lots of information and super views the up keep of the place is very good as a lot to maintain
Wonderful cafe lovely fresh hot food and staff lovely and friendly the gentleman serving on tables was a brilliant example of most true Guernsey people lady said she was feeling not very well he told her she could stay sat as long as she wanted and got her a glass of water and asked if he could do anything else for her well done sir a credit to you
The gift shop lady was also great about to pack a gift up so it didn’t get broken but I said no need as we live in the island
So a must for visitors and locals
Well done too you all

Castle Cornet is an easy and pleasant walk from the town centre. The 4 museums in the castle were all interesting and the views from various points fabulous. There was a solo performance by one of the local players about the history of the first residential/nursing home in Guernsey which was brilliant.

We had a fantastic time in Guernsey with so much to do on such a small island. We loved it and would recommend it whole heartedly!!
The only downfall was our hotel! The Premier Inn in St Peter Port was abysmal. The service was awful, one member of staff on occasion to look after the bar, reception including check in and the restaurant. One evening we couldn’t get any food as the Chef was poorly with no replacement, thankfully St Peter Port offers plenty of places to eat out. Don’t be put off by the poor service we received at the Premier Inn as there are other hotels and Guernsey is a fantastic place, we loved it 🥰

We had a (free) guided tour with Charlie - 90 minutes of enthusiastic, comprehensive, passionate and fascinating detail of the history of not only the Castle, but also of Guernsey life, particularly during the Occupation. The tour was so good it was worth the entrance fee alone! Thank you Charlie!

A good start to guersey for sure, we did as soon as we jumped off the boat. Sadly parking nearby is poor and we only found a 2 hour slot so I felt we was a bit rushed. But the staff we met and what we saw was lovely and well worth the entrance fee. Certainly recommend for starting the guernsey journey

Spent about 2hrs at this attraction. Nice shop and cafe and stunning views from the castle. There is a cannon blast fro the castle at 12.00 noon which you can hear all around. Entry fees reasonable and staff very helfpul.

Its well worth having a look around Castle Coronet in St Peterport Guernsey. Its £11 an adult. You could easily spend 2 hours looking around the museum and grounds. Whatever you do miss the noon gun being fired. Be warned, its LOUD. There is also a nice cafe with a patio with great views.

A most excellent Castle and well worth the visit especially to witness the midday gun firing. There is so much to look at. We were able to have a private viewing of the 201 Squadron exhibit. This was because the exhibit was closed for work and we were able to come back and see it just before the castle closed. We are indebted to the staff who were so helpful and made our visit very special.

Great place to visit, so much to see. We had a great guide called Tanya (I think) and she was excellent. Had so much knowledge and really interesting and passionate about the Castle and its history. Definitely worth doing the guided tour. Great displays inside the castle, I spent about 2 hours all up just wandering around and doing the tour.

Do you need local currency to tip when leaving and returning to the cruise ship?

We will be getting off our cruise to see Castle Cornet. Do you need local currency to eat and visit the castle?
Written 22 January 2020
I used debit cards and English Pounds. Be careful about taking notes off the island though. Channel Island notes are not legal tender elsewhere in the UK. If you withdraw cash from the ATM or break a large bill, you should expect to spend the cash on the island.

Hello,
We are visiting Guernsey next week ( will have car with us) and I forgot that we lose an hour for the check in at the ferry on the return journey. So we only have 3 hours to see a few things. Apart form the Castle could anyone recommend any other places to visit in our short time on the Island? Beaucette Marina etc?
Many thanks

As above, but I would allow longer for the castle. National Trust shop. Bathing Pools (lovely bit of coast). Christie's for coffee/brunch/lunch. Have you checked out the parking? You must buy a time pass, and read up on the rules.

Hi - 10 minute walk along the causeway to the castle. Once inside the museums/cafe/firing of the cannon are nearby and relatively close together. The longer walk would be if you did a circular tour of the castle walls. Plenty of places to rest.

Do you need to pay the entrance fee if you only want to view the outside grounds? Only have an hour. Many thanks in advance
Written 26 June 2018
Yes you do have to pay, but it's quite a nice walk down and there are lovely views back towards the town and out to sea.

we will be there for 1 day as part of cruise in the middle of july is it far from where the cruise boats dock ?? thank you in advance

Hi Kerry,
The cruise ship I was on (Queen Victoria) anchored off shore, it was about a 15 minute tender ride to the port.
Once we got to the port it was literally under a 10 minute walk to the entrance point for the castle.
Have a wonderful time.

Combien coute l entree uniquement pour assister au tir du canon sans les musées. Trop cher pour notre groupe scolaire et manque de temps.Nous arrivons à 11H30 pour repartir a 12h15.
Merci de votre réponse précise.
