Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Just been on tour with 14 University caterers attending a large conference at Exeter university. Thoroughly insightful, very enjoyable and brilliant fish breakfast.

We have visited Brixham for years and love the fact it's a working fishing port.
We saw the fish markets tour advertised outside for 12.50pp. This includes a guided tour of the market, watching the fish auction and then breakfast in Rockfish which is next door.
We arrived at 5.50am and us along with another 24 people were taken upstairs to get into white coats, shoe covers and hair nets. We were told before we arrived to wear something warm and it's very cold in there. We went into the fish market and had a full tour inside and out and learnt so much about the market and the industry. After we went to Rockfish next door and had a delicious breakfast which was worth the money by itself, fresh fish, scallop, egg, bacon and toast. All washed down with lots of tea or coffee. From start to finish it was roughly two hours. Highly recommend this tour, it's a must for Brixham lovers.

This is an early start but worthwhile to understand more about the fishing industry, plenty of opportunity for questions. Also lucky enough to see a few seals in the harbour which added to it. Lovely breakfast included.

We can only echo everyone else's views on this tour. It was both enjoyable and informative, and followed by a lovely fish breakfast. We were lucky enough to have Barry, MD of Brixham Trawler Agents, who run the market, leading part of the tour. His hilarious explanation of how cuttlefish reproduce and are caught should be filmed for YouTube!

The fish market tours are reliant on volunteers Dave & Christine organising everything, and they plan to retire next year. We so hope that someone will step in to take over from them, as it would be such a shame for the tours to stop.

Thank you very much for your kind words. So glad you enjoyed it. We have currently agreed some dates for 2019 and have other volunteers to take it forward. We may even take a couple ourselves! Christine

This is a great tour even with an early, 5.50am, start. The tour is interesting and the volunteers who are the tour guides reaĺly know their stuff. The fish breakfast afterwards, at Rockfish is a great bonus and definitely worth getting up for!

Recently thoroughly enjoyed this experience having lived in Brixham for over 70 years I was amazed at the technology on view and the different species of fish that go through the market. The breakfast was very good as well.

Just returned from our first Fish Market tour which we thoroughly enjoyed. Although the quantity of fish today was relatively small, it was still a fascinating experience to see the operation and auction at close hand. Our guides were excellent and kept us on track. Wrap up warm as, especially in the cuttlefish store, it is cold! After the tour we had a delicious cooked breakfast at Rockfish: egg, bacon, scallop, hake and smoked haddock with sourdough toast. And all before 8 am! Great value at £15 per head. Highly recommended.

These tours are popular and we had booked it last year to avoid disappointment. We got up at 4.30 am on a cold, wet April morning to meet at 5.50 at the Fish Market. All very exciting to be out at such an hour as I am not really a morning person! We were greeted and assembled then issued with white overalls, mine bearing authentic cuttle fish ink stains but they were clean. Unless you wear rubber soled shoes you will have to wear plastic overshoes. Similarly unless you wear a hat you will be issued with a hair net. Then we were off to witness the numerous boxes of fish and shellfish including gurnard, hake, plaice, Brill, Bream, monkfish tails, sole, cuttlefish (in their own dedicated cold store), enormous turbot and more. Even though the quantity of fish was relatively small it was very impressive. Then we were able to witness the fish auctions, the process of which is pretty high tech these days. It really lets you have an insight into this remarkable industry which is such a huge part of our heritage. If you eat fish you really should get yourself on one of these trips. You realise the hard work and long hours involved in this industry.

Outside we were lucky enough to see 2 (well fed!) seals feasting on discarded bits of cuttlefish in the Harbour. At the end of the tour with our knowledgeable and friendly guides, we enjoyed a delicious breakfast at Rockfish (upstairs above the market) which was well received. Also a chance to chat to fellow tourers. Then by 8 am the rest of the day is yours! Highly recommend this tour.

This is one of those rare "must do" experiences.

I am soooo not a morning person, but wouldn't have missed this for anything.

From start to finish this was a fabulous, engaging, interesting and fun event.

...and if you have older children / young adults who are interesting in a potential marine-related job, you absolutely MUST take them on this tour!

We managed to get up early and get there on time. Luckily there were plenty of free parking bays directly opposite so we managed to get a space with ease.

The tour was really informative. I learnt a lot about the fishing industry that I was totally unaware of and watching the seafood auctions was mesmerizing (and watching the speed of the sales on the LED boards behind the auctioneers).

Life on the boats, the way the money goes back to the fishermen and their families and the community was fascinating. To finish off was a superb seafood breakfast. Highly recommend.
