wonderful three day, two night canoe and camping trip down the river Wye from Hay on Wye to Hereford. Excellent guide, great equipment, fully catered with excellent quality food cooked on a camp fire. Good camping spots by the river. DEfinitely recommend Winding River Canoe as a company to do canoeing trips with and I would definitely book with them again

Had a really fantastic weekend led by the wonderful guide + chef Nick! This was an 8 person birthday canoeing and camping adventure from Totnes. Most of us hadn't been canoeing before (we're late 20s -early 30s), nor anything really like this before, and we all absolutely loved it.

On the first afternoon we enjoyed a lovely lunch at Sharpham cafe en route, and a leisurely paddle down to the campsite. Each paddling session on the way there was about 1 hour of paddling, nothing too strenuous, although we were a bit achey afterwards, in a good way! We did 2 hours or so on the way back (tide and wind both helping) with a brief stop for water part way, but your group sets the pace, whether you're speedy or more relaxed.

Campsite was basic but had a great campfire, and Nick prepared an amazing dinner and breakfast for us all, which was an absolute treat.

Scenery the whole way is glorious, we even saw some seals!

Overall - thoroughly recommended, we enjoyed every moment of it (even the rain!) and can't wait to go again!

Booked with ease on Wining River's website, was kept informed of any changes made due to Covid restrictions and the trip information and FAQ page answered all other questions. Nick, our guide gave good safety and canoeing for beginners advice and the afternoon was an absolute treat. Gently paddling up the Dart for a couple of hours seeing seals and water birds, cheese and wine from the local vineyard in a shaded glade, followed by coffee and another gentle paddle back, with the option to swim in the river (our dog loved this!). A very enjoyable addition to our holiday.

We did the picnic trip from Stoke Gabriel. Nick was very informative and easy going. Our first trip was cancelled due to poor weather but Nick kindly managed to run an extra trip to accommodate us the following week. We all had a great time, thanks Nick

Nick was helpful, the row to the Malsters Arms at Tuckenhay was very doable for most with plenty to see on the way. The food offerings at the pub were awful. Some fancy smancy worded menu that was difficult to understand, and there were not enough staff to ask, so we settled for a portion of chips each at £5 per person, and got a small bowl which looked like something you sit a plant pot in with a small handful of frozen chips - shocking. Chef too lazy to peel a few potatoes and cook chips properly.

Highly recommend canoe experience, but strongly recommend taking packed lunch and just have a beer, especially if kids with you as this pub food will cost you a fortune for what is no better than Whetherspoons if that!

We enjoyed a fantastic trip canoeing from Totnes to Stoke Gabriel. Nick was an excellent guide and helpful throughout. This was a great experience for the entire family including our youngest daughter (8). We would highly recommend the experience and hope to try some of Nick’s other routes in the future.

Fantastic trip down the river dart, can highly recommend. Extremely good value for money , the sausages and brownies were good quality and very tasty! Nick was extremely helpful with the information prior to the trip and accommodating with our timings. Tim was our guide for the evening, he was very friendly, informative and good company. We will definitely be back! Thank you Tim and Nick.

I did the Wye Valley Expedition with Nick doing a great job as trip leader, guide, canoe teacher and chef. A wonderful trip spread over three days, truly immersive into the wildlife and ways of the river. The canoeing was well paced, everyone slipped into what Nick calls "river time", unhurried and peaceful. All the cooking from a cuppa on the riverbank to evening meals was done over open fires, all the meals provided were plentiful and delicious. The campsites were great, having a beer on the wharf watching the bats emerge over the river at dusk on our second night was just one of many memories from the trip. All the kit provided, tips on canoeing and overall organisation - all good. I really can't fault anything, 5 Star throughout.

We highly recommend going on this tour! We went on the canoe picnic which was delicious! Full of local produce and handmade items with a great variety of options. Nick is absolutely a legend, very cool, calm and collected, puts you in great ease. They gave you everything you need and we will definitely be going on another one when we return!

Few better ways to spend a warm summer’s day than kayaking up and down the Dart. Kayaks were in great condition and views were spectacular. Nick was a wonderful host. Shame that we couldn’t do the wine/cheese or the storytelling trips due to Covid as these sounded brilliant. Trip well suited to those with limited kayaking experience as water is calm and most of the time you are paddling with the tide.

Thanks for the great review. We are now able to run our wine-tasting canoe trips and evening storytelling, as well as paddle to the pub and back :) Hope to see you again. Nick
