As this pub features in teh Good Beer Guide I just felt it had to be visited whilst stopping in Dawlish. Indeed the beer is excellent and teh welcome was warm from staff and regulars alike. There is nomistaking this is a "proper" pub and worth a visit.

Very friendly warm atmosphere,excellent well kept real ale and ciders. Ideal for a quiet pint or educated chat with locals.Excellent set back location but very close to a supermarket, Chinese take away and launderette. Lovely staff and Martin is a great host despite not working for the excellent team. Definitely a secret but well respected quiet treasure.…

Was really excited to visit this pub as my grand parents lived on this street all their lives as I was very young I never went into the pub but spent many hours playing on the rails outside waiting for my grandad my grandad passed nearly 30yrs ago so it was quite sentimental . The white heart itself was just as I hoped it be I could imagine grandad sat at the end of the bar. It very oldey wooldy had a good feel about it. The one thing that let it down is we felt very uncomfortable as the bar staff was quite unfriendly she poured the drinks and walked to the end of the bar and didn't acknowledge us again such a shame. …

Having recently spent a week in Dawlish Warren and not been able to find a pint of locally brewed ale the white Hart Dawlish was a treasure. Four real ales and a great welcome. Reasonably priced, good atmosphere and dog friendly.

From the outside it seems the quintessentially traditional English public house. Inside a different story. 'Tradition' has been abandoned for 'make do'. However that wasn't the problem - the beer choices were reasonably good and the pint more than palatable. Admittedly it was warm and the door being open made good sense - albeit there is a beer garden advertised as being at the back - however by putting the tables right outside the door it encouraged smokers to gather right outside and instead of the smoke going away it blew right into the pub. I sat in the back 'room' but this made not a scrap of difference. The rest of the customers, who seemed to all know one another and I assume were therefore locals, didn't seem to mind - indeed they didn't seem to notice owing to the raucous noise they were making: shouted conversation and ridiculously loud false laughter.
