About
Abbotsbury Swannery is the only place in the world where you are able to walk through the heart of a colony of nesting Mute Swans, spread over a site of some 25 acres. A visit to the Swannery is considered one of the best things to do in Dorset. The swans at Abbotsbury are all free flying and the Swannery is a wildlife sanctuary (not a zoo). From mid-March and until the end of October the Swannery opens its doors for visitors to enjoy the beauty of this unique colony, the only one in the world. Cygnet season provides the rare chance to witness the hatching of fluffy grey cygnets. Feeding the herds by hand, is a special part of any visit to the Swannery, the herd of approx. 600 swans are fed at midday and 4.00pm daily. Included also is the Swan Maze (the largest willow maze in Dorset), Pedal Go-Karts, Wild Meadow Walk, Coffee Shop and Gift Shop. Car Parking is free on site to visitors.

    Swans in the sun
Visited end of May. Pleasant walk from the car park to the swans. There were lots of cygnets and we saw eggs hatching when the birds repositioned themselves on their nests. Many other types of birds to be seen on and around the Fleet. Good information boards and interesting display about the duck decoy and wildfowling. We visited on a beautiful sunny day could be unpleasant in the rain.

    So many swans!
A lovely place to visit. Managed to time it to be there for the evening feeding too which was lovely. Friendly and approachable staff, a good price for admission we felt - particularly if you take your time to enjoy it all - lots of bits could easily get missed if you rush. Would definitely come back again.

    An incredible place!
What an amazing place!!!! So worth a visit. We were able to join in with the 4pm feed which was incredible. The swanherd and all the staff are so knowledgeable and we learnt so much. Great to see the black swans and the cygnets too. This is a ‘must see’!

    Adorable Gardens and Adorable Swans
The space is amazing, truly beautiful and well looked after. It's clear that the swans' wellbeing is at the heart of everything they do here! Very happy to have a chance to visit the cygnets while they're nesting. The ticket price for adults felt a little expensive, although the children's ticket is only £1 during June which seems amazing value, I understand and appreciate that the money goes to the up-keep of this amazing site. There are also lots of extra activities for children and adults, such as the Swan shaped maze which add to the experience too. Lovely small giftshop and café on-site too. Overall an amazing experience that we'd recommend to anyone!

    A very enjoyable visit
We had a nice, sunny day for our visit to the Swannery. I did actually visit in 1992 and had always thought I'd like to see it again. We arrived by 11.30 and there was not a problem parking. I'd actually exchanged some Tesco tokens which worked perfectly against the £12.50 entrance fee. The staff on the entrance desk were very friendly and helpful, encouraging us not to miss the 12 noon feeding. It was lovely seeing the swans and cygnets, though you need to be prepared to see adult swans actively trying to kill/drown babies which are not their own. Feeding was great fun and although they encourage children to go in, all ages are more than welcome - we got plenty of lovely photos. At the end of June, there were cygnets of varying sizes, very cute. We walked the various trails and were finished in about an hour and a half.

    Hi
Heya. The swannery is the place in order to go if you love swans. There are loads of swans at this place in question. Bring a old fashioned camera in addition to snap a bunch of pictures as well. Make the utmost of your visit by attending a cool lunchtime talk to start off with. Then you must stop at the cafe, use the go karts provided here and wind up the entire day in the maze too. Stroll around. Take your time. There is no rush. Good luck. Try to squeeze in a short timer trip to the gift store and have a cheap ice cream. All in all a fun outing for the whole family. Recommended. Five out of five stars. I will return in the future. Look at the wild flowers. Appreciate the swans. Have fun. Feed the swans. Read the information panels.

    Brilliant....
This was awsome. We saw the 12 o clock feed and then the walk round the pools of young swans was so moving. We saw a signet only a few hours old. Just brilliant and so worth going. Only drawback my mocha and his cappuccino was watery (maybe not made.with all milk) and not tasty so please up the coffee game and it would get a full ten as the cafe cakes etc were fab.

Great place for learning about Swans
We spent a morning at the swannery during a visit to Dorset. It was a great experience. My wife has always loved swans and being so close to hundreds of them and dozens of cygnets was a real thrill. We learned so much about them, took part in feeding and enjoyed the educational talk from the keeper during the feeding. Lovely setting too.

    A pleasant surprise
A pleasant surprise. When we went there were lots of cygnets who all been born at the end of may, so it was lovely to see the swan families. There was lots of different birds and you really can get close to them. The maze was fun and interactive so great for all ages. A nice few hours on a sunny afternoon.

You need to plan to arrive at least 30 minutes before either the 12 noon or 4 pm feeding times. It is then a 10 minute walk down from the ticket office to the feeding area.
Very photogenic swans and not too many people surprisingly on Easter Sunday.
The external car park is free as are the well kept toilets next to the car park.
Well worth the 12.95 pp entry fee. Remember this is a not for profit community run enterprise.
I then tackled the climb up to the Chapel, which was way too muddy down in the brook area. With the wet weather here over the end of March, this walk is best done from the actual Village.
Children would enjoy the maze in the Swannery grounds. Access is included in your admission fee.
This would be an even better experience in the cygnet hatching season.

LOCATION AND ACCESS
The drive is beautiful and Abbotsbury is a lovely village with tea rooms and lovely old pubs
The walk is around 400 metres from the entrance to the swannery itself but you can drive down if you have mobility issues. Its then very flat and disabled friendly throughout

FACILITIES AND SERVICES
Small gift shop, a few interactive areas and random shipping and war artefacts plus toilet facilities at the entrance area only, although there are disabled toilets half way to the swannery
A children’s park is a nice touch to keep them occupied as is a small cinema style room where they tell you about it all

FOOD AND DRINK
A small well priced cafe and the gift shop with fudge and jams etc is on offer

Far too expensive for a group of over 70s. We couldn’t afford £12.50 each sadly so we passed on it. Have been before so rather shocked by price this time.

A really beautiful place to visit and the weather was brilliant. It’s amazing to see so many swans together plus the individual pools where parent swans are with their cygnets, some of which were nearly adults. We were there at feeding time and the swans start to congregate together in one huge mass just incredible. Members of the public are invited to help feed the swans, especially children but adults as well. We also saw some ducks and geese flying over and landing. Loved it here.

Amazing place, lovely scenery and a fantastic experience. Fed the swans and it was great. Lovely maze, even though we got lost and didn't make it to the egg. Had a go on the go-carts as my inner 12yr old couldn't resist. Got the tickets for the tropical gardens too. Would definitely visit again.

We came here not really knowing what to expect but thoroughly enjoyed our afternoon. There were more swans than we have ever seen in our lives and it was lovely to see the signets. We even got the opportunity to help feed the swans which was unexpected but good fun. Personally, I don’t feel you need more than a morning or afternoon here but still worth a trip.
