Mapperton is a glorious sandstone manor house and romantic valley garden...

Mapperton is a glorious sandstone manor house and romantic valley garden deep in a lost Dorset combe among tumbling hills and unspoiled countryside. Fifteen acres of gardens descend from the croquet lawn, through the formal topiary down to the wild garden. Mapperton is the home of the Earl and Countess of Sandwich, and welcomes visitors to the Gardens from 1 March to 31 October, to the House from 27 March to 31 October, and to the Sawmill Cafe from 24 March to 31 October.

When I visited this place I enjoyed the tour of the house and we had good tour guide which is better then going around on your owe and have a quick look . You stand in each room for about 10 mins telling you about room. The gardens were beautiful and well kept. The cafe is very nice as they... More

We visited Mapperton while staying locally. While we did not take a tour of the house it is a beautiful sandstone Manor House. We spent an hour or so in the gardens - something of interest down every path from topiary to ponds, with borders (which even in early October had some colour) and a small arboretum. Of particular note... More

We visited Mapperton on a beautiful sunny day. Started our visit with lunch in the Sawmill cafe which was delicious and reasonably priced.it was an hour until the next house tour so we walked through the beautiful garden then were given a tour of the house by Nick and Maggie. Very knowledgeable and interesting information. Ten out of ten 😊

We visited the house and gardens the start of October 16 and was expecting a bit more than what was on Offer. The lady who works in the ticket office was lovely and although we had arrived at 11.30 for the 12 tour we were told that the next space available was the 1pm tour. She suggested that we did... Beautiful house and gardens and chapel and the ideal setting for a charity plant sale. The whole place is an idyllic rural showpiece and is worth a visit at any time. When we went there was a charit garden fair on and it just fitted perfectly.

The house is wonderful and can be seen by guided tour only. It does however add to the experience as it is informative and brings the history of the property and those who lived in it to life. The gardens are superb.

We visited both the house and gardens and would return to see the gardens again and again. The views are amazing with the most remarkable collection of plants. The house guide was very informative and the rooms on display are beautiful but you only scratch the service with the vast majority of the house is out of bounds.

We visited here for the annual autumn plant fair where you can buy some amazing plants, which are not available widely, at really good prices. There were so many stalls that we were spoilt for choice. We did not visit the house or gardens on this visit as it was very busy, but will visit sometime next summer when it... More

These gardens are lovely with an unusual layout and quite hilly in places. There are beautiful aspects and a camera is essential! Didn't have time to do the tour of the house, but both house and garden are situated almost in the middle of nowhere, giving a tranquil setting which would be hard to beat. The café is a bonus... The gardens and house are superb plus you get the bonus of great cuisine in the cafeteria. This really is a must for anyone on holiday in this part of the country.
