Well worth a visit to this excellent local museum that focuses on the local industries, particularly rope making. Very interesting and well laid out.

Although some of the displays look in need of modernisation, there are really good objects found locally on display. Best areas are the Roman section and the explanation of the town’s rope-making history with examples of its equipment. This display explains why there are so many shops in the town that stretch so far back from the road very well.... More

If you live here or are just curious this museum offers an insight into the Bridport of old. Not just the usual stuff - there are photos of the railway branch line that closed in 1975.

The delightful little museum has a whole lot of surprises in store for the casual visitor to Bridport. The story of the rope and net production through the many years, still ongoing today I find very absorbing. When you walk into many of the local shops etc you wonder why they go back so deeply. Why the roadways seem wider... More

Right in the heart of beautiful Bridport. A wonderful ancient building housing all sorts of interesting stuff for young and old alike. A great rainy day thing to do.. The staff are all very smiley and helpful and it is free...how great is that!

Don't miss the walking tours of Bridport run by the museum! I've just been on one and although I've lived in the town, I learnt some fascinating stuff and went down little alleyways and squares that I never knew existed.
