I am not a wine connoisseur or pretend to be but the tour at Furleigh Estate was very good!

A lot of information, cool facts and topped off by it taking place in such a beautiful setting.

We got to sample a variety of still and sparkling wines at the end and as the tour was 10-12 people, it had a very personal touch to it

Really recommend if you are in the area

While I am sure the regular tour guide would have been just as good, we had the owner, Rebecca Hansford as our guide when we visited. She knows everything you ever want to know about wine (and then some) and was able to put it all into the context of Furleigh Estate and their wine making culture.
The tour begins with a walk into the vineyard for an explanation of how a vine leads to grapes. followed by a visit to the winery where the process is followed through to there being a bottle of wine.
Finally a tasting where we went through three still wines - two white and one rose - and two of their sparkling selection.
I am, by nature, a sceptic of English Wines and both the effervescent enthusiasm of Rebecca and her team and the beautifully balanced wines, might be a large step in removing such scepticism.
At £30 per head, not the cheapest afternoon but value for money? Yes and then some. I look forward to tasting these wines again, at Christmas, as I bought a selection.
Oh, just one thought, Rebecca. £5 discount per head...... I could have made two booking (one each) and then had double the discount. Just a thought :-)

Wonderfulr 2 hours on a sunny Wednesday morning on a tour. Great guide, full of information about the vineyard and winery and the process of making wine.

Wine tasting was great - really high quality tasty wines - bought 3 in the end.

Highly reccomended!

We booked on to the full vineyard tour with tasting, Nick was our guide and was brilliant, very welcoming and extremely knowledgable! Nothing was a silly question which is great when there are differing levels of knowledge within the group. I would highly recommend visiting and booking onto the tour, it’s not the cheapest around but worth every penny and you get £5 each back to put towards a bottle of wine. The tasting was great too, you try 3 still wines and 2 sparkling so you get a really good feel for what they produce at Furleigh and it didn’t disappoint!

We visited for a tasting and tried a white, rose and sparkling seated on a terrace in the sunshine overlooking the rolling fields of the vineyard - an idyllic spot. The tasting room itself is the old farm's converted cattle shed, and is smartly dressed. We were well-briefed on the wines (each had a detailed tasting notes card). The sparkling was from a new bottling and a little harsh for our taste - quite nutty, but the rose was delicious and the pinot noir white was as good as a grand cru burgundy. The experience was delightful and we came away with rather a lot of bottles! It can be ordered online too. I think we may do just that

Tours of the vineyard are at set times, and must be booked, but they are clearly popular and deservedly so. If you like wine (especially white burgundy style) you will not be disappointed.

Fantastic. Our guide was super knowelgable, friendly, funny and easy company. In fact all the staff were very friendly. The tour is fantastic, the tasting even better. Some of the best wine not in England but the world. The awards they have won back that up.

My husband and I decided to make a spur of the moment trip up from Lyme Regis to avoid the rain. I’d spotted online that Furleigh do a wine tasting at £5 per person (no booking required) so I thought we’d give that a go to try something different and grab a bottle of my favourite fizz at the same time. We weren’t disappointed, there was a friendly greeting on arrival and the lady who looked after us was very knowledgable and able to answer our random questions! Having tasted 2 wines and 1 fizz we were left alone to finish off our glasses without any pressure to buy. We did of course..... our ‘expert’ also took us outside into the sunshine (thank god it had stopped raining) to tell us some more about the vineyard, the vines and how it’s all done. The views across their estate are glorious. Great way to spend an hour, we’d definitely go back to restock.

Over the years I have bought many bottles of Furleigh Estate wine for friends and family, purchased Grand tour tickets as Christmas presents and generally sung the praises of this winery.

So I was very disappointed by the lack of welcome when we dropped by at the shop on the estate on a rainy Monday to taste and buy wine. We were ignored for quite a long time and when we asked for a tasting, the lady simply read from the wine notes.

All in all, the general reception was chilly (was our purchase too insignificant?!) or has complacency set in?

We will not be returning again sadly.

Furleigh Estate is a 'must visit' for anyone interested in wine. It was established in 2005 at Rebecca Hansford's former childhood home - a dairy farm - which came onto the market at the right time. The winery produces amazing sparkling varieties (easily the equal of any Champagne), classic still whites and roses and a top quality red.
There are two tours. I chose the Grand - two hours worth of fascinating information and insights, an opportunity to look round the production area where the 2020 harvest was busily fermenting away and six magnificent wines to taste. Sadly, torrential rain meant we couldn't walk along the vines - a good reason to come back another day. (We were given an extra glass of bubbles to make up for it!)
Tour guide Anna has a degree in winemaking and knows her stuff but presents with style and grace, never stuffy or snobbish. She says the most important question is - do you like the wine? I did! And couldn't resist buying some to take home.
I was privileged to meet Rebecca and share a wine story or three, thanks too to Paul who made sure all our purchases were wrapped and the finances sorted. An excellent afternoon, despite the rain. All Covid-secure - don't miss out on the experience.

This trip was a birthday present for a friend & she was thrilled. the young lady who did the tour (unfortunately I can't remember her name) was very knowledgeable about the vines, how long it takes to produce the wine, the process of bottling & the hilight of the tour the wine tasting. We were given 5 wines to try (all decent measures) & she talked us through all the process of smelling & tasting & she wasn't a wine snob trying to get all superior & blind us with science she genuinely wanted us to enjoy the wine & make our own mind up with the info she given us. It was £25 per head & that included an hours tour of vines & bottling plant then an hour of wine tasting its a very pleasant way to spend an afternoon if you like wine & not at all rushed. I would definitely recommend this tour if like us all adult party.
