What an amazing thing to do as a family. We spent a weekend in Dorset especially to go fossil hunting and weighed up the options of doing a trip with an expert. We are so glad we decided to go for it! 3 hours with Chris must be the best family treat we’ve done in ages. We all learned so much but we had so much fun too! Chris kept us all laughing with his cheesy jokes while he taught us what to look for and how to look for it. His manner was perfect for kids and adults alike. The more than two hours actually fossil hunting on the beach absolutely flew by. We brought home loads of finds and we never would have got them without his guidance. Thank you Chris! I think we have a new family hobby!

Definitely different. Chris is very engaging and knowledgeable and a bit bonkers about fossil hunting -his enthusiasm is infectious even in a howling gale and torrential downpour.
Thoroughly enjoyable and informative 3 hours and we even found a few fools’ gold ammonites
Great fun thoroughly recommended but make sure you are well equipped for the weather it’s quite exposed when stormy.

Excellent family day out with ages ranging from a 3 year old to some in their fifties.
Chris provided a very informative lesson before we started searching . He tailored his approach to all from our youngest up to our oldest family members.
He was helpful and encouraging to all party members and we would like to thank him for the attention he gave our youngest .
We had a particularly energetic and inquisitive 3/4year old and he came away saying he loved fossil hunting and he thought the fossil man (Chris ) was great 👍.
We all learned something, we all came away with fossils and we were truly tired out after our efforts . Would highly recommend .
Don’t expect easy finds without a guide ( an expert guide is definitely worth it 👍)
Many thanks to Chris Pamplin .

Loved our fossil walk at Charmouth. Chris was very informative - we had our introductory lesson beforehand and even got tips on how to look after our fossil finds. We would never have known where to locate the fossils without Chris. We had a great time scouring the beach with Chris, who taught us the areas to concentrate on. Using this knowledge we were able to go on our own fossil hunts over the next few days and we were very successful at finding numerous fossils on our own. I can honestly say we would not have had as much success without having gone with Chris first.
Tip - I would definitely put on flip flops /boat shoes, shorts or waterproofs as it was so easy to forget about the waves when focusing on finding fossils!

I made a booking for me and my partner to celebrate our anniversary by learning to fossil hunt. A bit of an odd choice maybe but so glad we did this.
We met Chris at the assignation point at 3.30 pm last Saturday. He spent some time talking through the geology of the area and the types of fossils we might find. The talk was informative, interactive and interspersed with his sense of humour.
This was really helpful and laid a great foundation (excuse the pun) to our fossil walk.

Once on the beach we truly lost ourselves in searching for the different types of fossils Chris had highlighted to us. We were fortunate to find a couple ourselves but armed with Chris' experience and extremely beady eyes we left with quite a little trove. So immersed in our task we completely lost track of time and there was evidently no pressure from Chris himself. We reached more or less the end of the beach before heading back to the car park.

An absolutely great few hours that has no doubt ignited future interest for us. We cannot recommend Chris enough.

My daughter and I booked Chris for a fossil walk but had to move it a couple of times due to covid. Chris was very helpful, responsive and it was easy to book. When we finally met at 8am in Charmouth, we warmed to Chris straight away! He is funny and great with the kids! He took his time showing and explaining then we went on a trek for fossils! I enjoyed it as much as our daughter! It was great! You must book!
Thank you Chris!

We came to Charmouth last year and went fossil hunting on Charmouth Beach, but had no clue what to look for or where to look. This year we booked a fossil hunt with Chris Pamplin which proved beyond doubt that last year we indeed had no idea what we were doing!!!
His jokes are groan worthy lol and his knowledge so annoyingly brilliant he found me the most tinniest of iddy biddy ammonites you could ever find, just to show how amazing his skills are. If you want to go fossil hunting on the Jurrasic Coast in Dorset, book a guided tour with Chris. Believe me you won't regret it. oh and he gets you completely hooked with how fascinating fossils are. Thanks Chris you are a star xx

We have been fossil hunting on Charmouth beach for many years now but booked a fossil walk with Chris as we were keen to learn more about finding fossils inside rocks. Chris started with a fun, informative talk and then showed us all the types of fossils we could potentially find - some of which we had never seen before! He gave us some great tips about the best way to search the beach and how to identify rocks which may be hiding something inside. We came away with several lovely finds. We all had a fun few hours and learnt lots of new things! Whether you are new to the joy of fossil hunting, or have been doing it for years, I would highly recommend a guided fossil walk with Chris.

We just got home from our two days on the Jurassic Coast. Chris was a marvel. My 7 year old was pretty grumpy but he told wonderfully terrible jokes and managed to cheer her up.

Chris is knowledgeable and patient and makes it easy. Helped us get the eye for it and by the end if three hours we were seeing fossils everywhere.

Really fun and it was spot on for all 3 generations of us.

I booked the private walk with Chris for 3 of us including my 6 year old daughter, 60 year old nanny and me (30 odd).
Chris provided clear communication prior to the day and was willing to answer any questions I had.
On the day Chris provided a COVID safe talk outside which was engaging and informative and yet still managed to capture the imagination of my 6 year old throughout. (Albeit a couple of iffy jokes 😂).

During the walk I had a very excited chatterbox (sorry) 6 year old who chris was more than happy to engage with.

Chris’s knowledge and guidance helped the 3 of us find more fossils than we had found combined in the past few years visiting the same spots.

Chris’s passion and love for fossils is clear throughout the 3 hours were such great value for money.

My 6 year old summed the trip up as “The best day ever!!”

We will be booking again :) and I would definitely recommend this to anyone interested in fossils.
