For nearly 300 years a lighthouse has stood on Portland Bill to guide vessels heading for Portland and Weymouth and acting as a waymark for vessels navigating in the English Channel. A red sector light warns mariners of the hazardous Shambles Bank lying three miles offshore. Tours of Portland Bill Lighthouse are organised by AMH Support Services under licence from the Corporation of Trinity House.

The site was well worth the visit but we did not go into the lighthouse so cannot comment further. The cafe nearby looked good and sold reasonably priced gifts.

We thought the Lighthouse - and the Lighthouse staff - were pretty wonderful. Our son was too little to do the tour, but enjoyed the lighthouse visitor centre and was pretty chuffed with his flag and badge. Plus one of the staff let us know...More

Being a ex-lighthouse keeper I was greatly blessed by the tour of the lighthouse. The guide who's name was Bob, was very informative without being to technical. He made the tour very interesting. He obviously had studied and learned his facts about the lighthouse. I...More

Our visit took place during a very windy stormy weekend and it was awesome - weather the lighthouse was designed for which added to the experience. The headland is amazing and watching the waves crash against the rocks gave an added sense of the isolation...More

Didn't go in the lighthouse just walked the edge of the sea by all the lovely beach huts and enjoyed a fabulous October afternoons sunshine. The sea was almost blue and the rocky edge really interesting.

Hi. I didn't go in the lighthouse, just around the outside taking photos, so unfortunately I cannot answer your question. Kind regards.
