The castle is in private hands, and one cannot visit the ruin. However, there are some nice views of the castle from the South West Coastal Path and the small lane on the side of the castle.

We passed by the ruin of the castle on a treasure hunt. Not much of the castle left now but can see why this was built as the view out to sea was uninterrupted and would have provided excellent strategic positioning in years gone by....More

You can't get to the castle or see anymore than shown in the pictures in the reviews but worth going for the ruins of the church and pirate graves. A walk down to the cove is worth it too but don't make a special trip...More

The views are spectacular. There are benches to sit and look out at the sea. Great views and lovely hike down to the beach.

There is not much to see because of stone robbery by either humans or the sea. Pass it by and see Portland Castle instead.

No access to this and the picture here shows all you can actually see. Dramatic location overlooking Church Ope Cove.

a good spot to visit on a sunny fall day, we were staying nearby and hiked to the castle from Church Ope Cove, a nice walk along the cliffs topped by the beautiful castle ruin. It's too bad there is no access to the castle...More

So this IS a ruin and there is NO public access and NO facilities for refreshments etc.It sits on private property. But... this is a fabulous old building, teeming with character and can be seen well from several public access points along the East coast...More

Well worth making a short detour and taking a picture if passing. As other reviews have mentioned there is no access.

Hi , it does not appear to be on a bus route. Suggest train to Weymouth and a taxi to Rufus Castle ( the castle is a ruin, its more a place for the view and small beach). The Portland Museum is right by it but this is not... More
