- TrailBlazer555353Manchester, United Kingdom3 contributionsFantastic place!Such a lovely place, great for the kids with lots of activities. They loved feeding the deer and watching with other animals and birds. Was fascinating watching the wolves being fed. Go carts and air pillow were very fun too. The staff couldn’t do more for you, very friendly. Highly recommend!Visited October 2023Travelled with familyWritten 27 October 2023
- Dayle forrestInverkeithing, United Kingdom15 contributionsA Memorable EncounterI highly recommend The Scottish Deer Centre to anyone seeking a day of nature and wildlife. It's a place where you can connect with the beauty of Scotland's wildlife and appreciate the dedicated individuals working to protect it. As a couple, we relished the peaceful walks through the lovely woodlands and along tranquil paths. It was a delightful way to disconnect from the hustle and bustle of everyday life. The centre houses an impressive array of animals, from adorable red squirrels to playful otters. Each enclosure was thoughtfully designed, providing ample space for the animals to thrive in a naturalistic environment.Visited November 2023Travelled as a coupleWritten 4 November 2023
- glazedglassScotland, United Kingdom7 contributionsLovely Afternoon/Animals/ParkLooked forward to visiting this place and it exceeded my expectations. We spent about 2 hours exploring the park. There was plenty to see, though no need to buy feed as there was lots scattered on the ground. Plenty space to eat a packed lunch. Primary downside was being told the 'actual' price before the pay as you please scheme - leads to a bit of embarrassment and it seems other reviewers found themselves in the same situation. Why mention the old price when you've altered your business model?Visited September 2023Travelled with familyWritten 14 January 2024
- Susan H3 contributionsFabulous day out on a rainy day 🌧A visit with childminding children on a very drookit day 🌧 Staff were incredibly welcoming and cheery! Pay as you wish, but always pay a decent amount as such a fabulous day out! We played in the ride-on car area and play area, had snack in the shed, enjoying a lovely coffee from the cafe. Then indoors to the soft play, where we ate our very tasty lunch from the cafe, which was very reasonable, and again the staff were superb! Can't praise the staff enough!! 😊Visited March 2024Travelled on businessWritten 14 March 2024
- Patricia H1 contributionGreat family day out without tourist trap prices !Absolutely fantastic day out , staff and facilities are superb and the animals did not disappoint. Great range of play areas for kids. Cafe and shop very reasonably priced and good quality. Pay as you please system a wonderful idea during this cost of living crisis. Second trip here , paid in full, but most definitely great if on a tight budget. Highly recommend giving this wee gem of a place a visit.Visited June 2024Travelled with familyWritten 2 June 2024
- Alan SChesterfield, United Kingdom43 contributionsCheck this place out!Came across this place kinda by accident, but it turned out to be a great day! We didn't realise how many different variety of deer there is. Loved seeing the Scottish Wildcats, the Brown Bears and all the birds of prey they had. Feeding deer was fun too, you can buy a bag at the entrance.Visited June 2024Travelled as a coupleWritten 8 June 2024
- EvelynEnglandUnited Kingdom423 contributionsA very enjoyable dayGreat day out. The park has recently changed ownership and is currently being renovated. They are operating a pay as you please entrance fee. We offered £10 each and this was accepted. £3.50 extra if you want to feed the deer. We passed the brown bear, lynx and wildcat enclosures and assumed they were empty. On finding the bears were out we hurried back round in time to witness the female bear munching her way through a rabbit. Sound effects were real as she crunched the bones. We then watched the bird of prey flying display with Craig. This was very informative and we enjoyed chatting to Craig earlier in the day and after the display. Lots of young school children were visiting on the day we were there and looked like they were having a great time.Visited June 2024Travelled as a coupleWritten 28 June 2024
- Laura DPortadown, United Kingdom218 contributionsGood day outLots to see, not just deers. Tractor ride was fun for our 6yr old son. Really nice play parks. The dinosaur skeleton sandpit was amazing. Plenty of places to sit down when your legs need a rest. It was donation entry, but we still paid £60 because it’s worth it and goes towards the upkeep of the park. Remember to pay for the tractor ride and animal food on entry. Also, keep some animal food for the tractor ride as you go into the deer pens. Easy to find, well sign posted. Not enough parking and large queues. My advice…. Queue before opening time xVisited July 2024Travelled with familyWritten 29 July 2024
- Langtoon3Kirkcaldy, United Kingdom478 contributionsFamily Day OutI feel that everytime we visit the Deer Centre it has grown more. We have been coming here for years - before we had a child when it was literally grass and an animals, and now it is full of activities. Our son loves all the play areas, especially the bouncy pillows. He also loved the old bus and climbed up and down the stairs I don't know how many times. Since they bought/acquired items from Muddy Boots there is even more for the kids to play on. We fed the deer, seen the bears in the water, caught sight of the beautiful wolf and seen a wildcat. We also indulged in a crepe from The Crepe Shack and shared a portion of chips from the van within of the play areas - we did think that perhaps some sort of splash screen would be a good idea on this van as the oil is right next to to the window so could potentially hurt a wee one standing with their parent waiting to be served. We spent over 3 hours here, and to be honest, our son probably could have played even longer had it not been time for us to go. We will be back again, there is no doubt about that! Oh, we would say, that if it was at all possible, a toilet towards the back of the park would be ideal too - it's quite a walk to the front of the park when a little one is desperate.Visited August 2024Travelled with familyWritten 6 August 2024
- Margaret M53 contributionsBrilliant dayBrilliant day out for the family and our visitors. More than just a Deer Centre and the team are lovely. The fact you can pay by donation helps those who don't have much free spending money. Our visitors from England raved about their day. Well done.Visited August 2024Travelled with familyWritten 13 September 2024

never been but my partner was keen to go to see deer close up. I must say I thoroughly enjoyed it, especially the birds of prey displays. the birds compound is being renovated so hopefully be able to see more next time. now the not so good... as had been said £2.50 for 20p of deer pellets is not cheap but certainly worth it for the kids, big and small!! we had booked and paid for tickets online but still had to queue for over 20minutes to sign in/receive paper tickets. all the food outlets had lenghty slow queues, even for icecream. both of us had worked in hospitality for years and our comment was - most inefficient place ever! maybe we got it on a bad day but it was midweek even if school holidays. bring your own picnic and enjoy your time here

We visited the "centre" and I wasn't all that impressed. Paths were very muddy and although we expected that, we did not expect areas to be completely unpassable and hidden mug bogs. There was no signs or warnings advising this so there were a few near misses of us falling in. We paid extra to buy deer food and enjoyed feeding them. Some animals were hiding for the winter which is completely understandable and others were very present.
We paid £15 per child to visit the "Grotto" which consisted of us queueing for an hour to get in then over another hour in a freezing cold tent to visit Santa. I understand the vibe they were trying to achieve with the fake snow bubbles but having freezing cold blowers constantly on did not help when the snow soaked through clothes. We did contemplate leaving but it seemed a waste of £15.
Overall this park needs some repair works done and I don't believe we will be back anytime soon.

We visited as a family of 4 with a 7 and 2 year old. The park is wonderful-plenty of animals to see and many up quite close. There are a few picnic areas, one under cover in a barn. There were plenty of places for refreshments and toilets too.
We found the rangers really made this park-every one we bumped into took time to speak to us and tell us more about the animals and they were really enthusiastic about their subject.
There were a couple of play parks - one in the woods and another in the barn and again this added to our enjoyment.
We found the entry fee to be very reasonable compared to similar attractions and would definitely recommend this place!

Having visited the centre on previous occasions (pre covid19) we enjoyed it immensely. It was an animal park with plenty to see and enjoy. Yesterday it was very busy yet still plenty of space for everyone without crowding, the cafe was busiest and certainly requires a larger seating area but prices are very reasonable. To my huge disappointment it has turned into a large children’s play park I understand it needs to be profitable and this attracts families but the animals have certainly been relegated to second place.

Loads to do here, First thing is see the deer, as it is a deer centre. Lots of variety 13 if i remember correctly but could be more! we also saw the wolves being fed and a very interesting talk from the keepers. The bears were also out in their pool and were very frisky before and after feeding time. We caught the birds of prey show, both the owl and falcon were awesome; Plus full marks to the keeper doing the talk all the way through with no mike on a very busy day and a good crowd watching. One of our favourite parts of the day was the Asian Otters what a pair of characters with the talk by the keeper was excellent. Still the star of the show was the Wild Haggis, not seen one before but be careful, boy do they leave a nasty nip! A great day out for all with lots for young children as well with playparks and plenty of things to do. A great asset to the park are the staff so friendly with lots of info about the animals in their care.
We ate twice here once at the crepes bar down at the wolves and playpark. They were very good but a bit messy, wipes will be needed with children. We also ate in the cafe in the square before the entrance to the park. The food here was also good and both were reasonable value.

Dropped in on a quiet day and had a nice walk round the extensive shop before lunch .
The menu was fairly standard for a cafe but the food was tasty and good quality with plenty of seating . There is also outdoor seating in good weather and plenty of parking

Warm welcome on to a courtyard where there’s an Edinburgh wooden mill shop, toilets and a cafe along with reception to deer centre. To start with the cafe. Dreadful lentil soup was tasteless ham sandwich was like rubber not very edible, cake and coffee were ok but pricey for the goods you receive. On to the park plenty to see and do, you can feed certain deer and they ain’t scared to be fed. Long walks around and a couple off play park and go carts. The animal shows are presented well and are interesting. I would go back but with a packed lunch.

Really enjoyed our visit. Deer were beautiful, and saw lots of other animals including wildcats, wolves, and otters. The birds of prey display was very high quality, lovely birds and really funny guy doing the talk. Plenty of play equipment for children, lots of picnic areas (including an indoor one). And the crepes were a really tasty addition. Very much enjoyed ourselves.

Just visited with our two grandchildren 4&7. We luckily arrived as a guided tour was to start. Rowan our guide was very knowledgable about the animals and tailored her talk to the children as a result our grandson now shares his new knowledge of deer to everyone he meets.
The animals appear to be well looked after and the facilities in good order.
Well worth a visit.

Middle of winter. Snow on the hills. BUT... fantastic visit. Loved the deers and the otters. The bird of prey and owl display were great fun. The youngest of our group was 39, oldest 82 and we all loved it.
