Learn about Dr. Falconer after whom the museum is named, a remarkable man. Friend of Darwin and almost the founder of modern palaeontology and geology, naturalist and maker of the tea industry in India. A video in upper room gives a very clear picture of his life and worth. The remainder of the museum is well set out and informative on life and conditions from prehistory to almost the present day covering many aspects of life and local history of around Forres. I hope the museum can be saved for future generations. The lady receptionist was most helpful.

Me and an employee of mine came to this museum, on Tuesday of last week, I really enjoyed it and my staff said the same they even left a donation in the box and really great that they had a lift - not many museums have lifts for disabled customers so that’s a bonus thanks and we will be back it was very interesting

So this museum pays tribute to Hugh Falconer a mate of Darwin and really important academic figure. The free (but worth a donation) museum's greeter quite sensibly pointed me in the direction of the 15 min video presentation about the man to set the scene. Wow the local Forres loon was some man and that's a tribute from someone from Elgin. I expected very little and tagged this on after Brodie castle and am so glad I did. Small but packed with local history. It combines fun for kids ( dressing up costumes, puppet show figures to play with and computer/drawing) with displays of wildlife, costimes, RAF Kinloss, Forres etc etc. Shows how a well thought out space can intrigue and provide a really interesting experience. Well done. Pop in. Do it!

Glad I visited here - lots to see and a very interesting film about Falconer. I knew nothing about him even though I once attended Forres Academy!
