Wonderful castle set amidst the gorgeous landscape of the gorgeous Westray island. quite a few vies to be seen from the higher parts of the castle. Castle has been maintained well by Historic environment Scotland and looks in great shape. Don't miss out!

Visited as part of Westraak tour(recommend ed). We got the stories behind the wacky way it was built and all the features put in by the Balfours.

This castle stop was part of the all day Westraak tour of Westray. Guide Andy gave a very thorough presentation of the history of the castle and the builder, a Scotsman, Gilbert Balfour from Fife.

Shame we had torrential rain on our visit! The building is impressive and the history really interesting, but its a shame it's not being looked after! The elements are slowly wearing it away.

From practically anywhere on the island you have a castle for a view! So cool to see such history to this tiny island!

I love old castles so had an excellent time visiting this castle. Would recommend it to anyone as you can wander round for ages in there.

The castle appears to be open through daylight hours. you wouldn't want to visit at night, the lighting is poor.
