- rredrose126Leicestershire, United Kingdom89 contributionsWould go again but with a different tour guide. We were here this week and did one of the tours. Overall the short film at the beginning and the museum next was very interesting. Then our tour guide came to get us, he was knowledgeable and we saw all the processes of whisky making. The tastings were very good and having booked the consuiers tour we were given 6 extra whiskys all very good choices. So the only reason not given a 5* on our rating came down to the tour guide. Ian should stop yelling at people , some may take offense. Our tour had a family with a disabled teen with them who could have been extremely scared. We really felt for everyone targeted. Definantly made you afraid to ask questions. We would definantly come again but not do a tour with the same guide again. Sorry.Thank you for taking the time to leave us a review, we're glad to hear that you enjoyed all the whiskies you tried on the Connoisseur Experience! We’re sorry to hear you didn't find your experience 5*. - Adele W1 contributionGreat Experience!Aberfeldy Distillery is simply beautiful, I took part in one of the tours and Jamie (our tour guide) delivered a brilliant tour. He was very funny and caring towards his tour group, a credit to the distillery, we opted for the extra sample and we weren’t disappointed. The tour itself was well planned out and the tasting areas were relaxing and the whisky was even better. Well worth a visit to the bar and shop too!Thank you for your lovely review, we're glad you had a great experience and found your tour guide Jamie both funny and caring! The Dewar's tour is very extensive and informative compared to the others. You learn a lot about the different processes of making blended and single malt whisky. The star of our tour was our tour guide Roy, a natural storyteller who knows a lot about whisky and is very honest.Thank you for taking the time to leave us a review, we're glad you had a wonderful tour with Roy and found your visit informative learning about the processes of our blended and single malt whiskies. - Thatsawkward45 contributionsCracking tour, lovely history and perfect guide! We did the guided distillery tour along with tasting and the extra cask tasting with a complimentary glass. Our guide, Cameron, was outstanding - lots of fascinating facts and insight. And the facilities were clean and well thought out - fascinating little museum, good videos and artifacts and the Dewars Blended Whisky and the Aberfeldy Single Malts were a delight! They were happy to provide little takeaway bottles for those of us driving so we could do our tasting later too. Nice location, easy to find and very highly recommended!Thank you for taking the time to leave us a 5-star review! We have been umpteen times over the years and each time there is something new to see, drink or eat. We tried the cocktails this time and we loved them. The whisky truffles are also delicious. The museum area is so well laid out and the tour itself was so interesting and informative - made so by our host Ian whose passion, enthusiasm and knowledge was absolutely brilliant. The samples lived up to it all too! A great interactive experience which embodies the very essence and history of whisky production in Scotland from it’s origins to the global phenomenon that is now Scotch! Awesome 😎We're glad you hear you had a fantastic visit, thank you for taking the time to leave us a 5-star review. - Role67 contributionsExcellent distillery experience.Had a fascinating hour and a half's tour here with my wife and sons, aged 12, 16 and 18. You start with a short film in a plush cinema room, and are then shown round the distillery and learn about the whole whisky-making process. A young man showed us round who was very informative. There is a museum which is a recreation of the Dewar's offices in (London?) as part of the tour, and you look around this independently for 20 minutes or so, before the final part where you taste two of the whiskies and are shown the "right" way to do it. If you are driving, or wish to taste your whisky later, you can take it home in a small labelled glass Dewar's bottle. There is a cafe, which we didn't use, and a smart shop with bottles up to £3000 in value! Recommend a visit, even if you aren't particularly fond of whisky.Thank you for taking the time to leave us a 5-star review, we're so pleased you and your family enjoyed your experience with us and learnt a lot about how we make our whiskies. We hope to welcome you back again soon!Written 28 August 2024This response is the subjective opinion of the management representative and not of Tripadvisor LLC.Visited August 2024Travelled with familyWritten 26 August 2024

Mixed feelings. We booked the tour last minute, so probably didn’t read everything properly. At no point during the booking process, however, was it made clear that the production area is currently inaccessible due to Covid, which we found a great disappointment. Having rechecked the website later, I still couldn’t find that information anywhere. Also, if you are looking for an independent distillery, don’t be fooled by the frequent use of words such as “traditional” on their website. The owner is Bacardi and again, the website doesn’t mention that. Another disappointment but I guess we should have done our research.
On arrival you have your temperature taken and a member of staff checks you in for your tour. The guy who we had to deal with (Bruce?) was quite brusque and abrupt. For the first point of contact on site, they could definitely do with someone friendlier and with better customer skills. You are not allowed to wear your own face mask as “it is a live production site” and they force you to wear one of theirs, but like I’ve mentioned before, you don’t even go anywhere near the production area. First, you get to watch a short film and then find yourself left to your own devices and trapped in the museum area for 45 mins. The actual tour basically consisted of a brief talk delivered in one of the former warehouses. The guide was nice enough, but we couldn’t help the feeling that it was all rushed through and done half-heartedly. After probably 15 mins max we were taken to the bar for tasting. Again, a very brief talk from the guide, drink up and go home.
Hardly any guidance on tasting, and the guide was with his back to us anyway as he seemed to be concentrating his attention on the other table (there were 5 of them and 2 of us but that doesn’t make us less valuable guesses).
We have visited quite a few distilleries before and this one was the worst so far. To make things even worse, they have a truly idiotic one way system in place, which does nothing but create chaos. Once in, if you need to go to the toilet, or are visiting the shop only, you end up queuing with everyone else outside and being bossed around by Bruce, unless you come with the guide, then the 2 meters rule goes out of the window and the whole group is allowed to push through the narrow entrance, past other people.
I’m really not sure where all the enthusiastic comments come from as we were left feeling quite puzzled after the bizarre experience. I’d recommend you go elsewhere.

We’re sorry to hear that you have mixed feelings about your visit.
To re-open safely, we have had to adjust our tour structure to our Silent Season offering. All of the information relating to how the tours work and measures in place can be found on the COVID page and individual tour pages of our website. We’re sorry that you missed these details.
As a manufacturing facility, we must maintain an approved standard specification of face mask to be worn by all staff and visitors to the distillery, regardless of where you go there is a cross contamination risk and we are trying to keep everyone as safe as possible.
Bruce is personally upset by being named in your comments, he is one of our longest serving guides and while he clearly didn’t give his usual high level of service, he does deeply care about our guests' enjoyment. As you point out, we generally get excellent reviews and will work with the team to understand why your experience was different.
Thank you for your review.

Although the production area is closed for visiting at the moment, we had a great talk delivered by a very knowledgeable and enthusiastic young man. I went for the connoisseur tour and for that you get a 27 year old dram straight from the cask and 5 premium drams sitting poured and waiting for you.
The self guided part in the museum was rather interesting and it was augmented with use of their ipads to scan areas in order to read more info.
Can thoroughly recommend and I'd like to do it again when folk can to the full tour

I was bought the cask tour as a Christmas present from my daughter, which I visited on Saturday 1st February. Tour was excellent, Tom who was our tour guide was informative with a sense of humour and above all wanted to ensure we had a good visit. The shop is excellently priced and the resturant area is great if people are waiting to pick you up as you’ve had a drink. The smells and the history are amazing especially the museum, well worth a visit when you’re in Aberfeldy

Really enjoyable experience. Our tour guide was very knowledgable and informative. We had a short film first explaining the background of how Dewars started and the people behind its success. Then we had a tour of the museum which was great seeing the history of the distillery. Because of covid restrictions we could not visit the actual production area so had a video showing the process with tour guide explaining each stage. The whisky tasting was also great and safely organised. We all felt it was great value for money and came home with a couple of bottles of whisky. Definitely worth a visit!

My girlfriend and I went to the Aberfeldy Distillery to go on the Dewar’s Aberfeldy Experience.
The tour begins with a film reel in a comfortable small theatre room, informing you of some of the history of John Dewar and his consequent sons. This is then immediately followed by a museum like experience where you can go around varying displays and delve even deeper in to the history of John Dewar & Sons, observe how they expanded and how they became one of the most popular whisky brands in the world. The only downside to the tour was the Smartify app was not working but that appeared to be on the Smartify end rather than the distilleries.
After this you are taken around the distillery, going through key rooms and locations where the processes of Whisky making are explained in excellent detail. Our tour guide, Cameron, was particularly knowledgable but often elected to talk to the tour group and involve us in the explanation. As someone who has visited many distilleries, I enjoyed that it felt like we were working together on this endeavour. We also got the chance to speak to one of the workers in the wash back room and learn more about what they were doing and how they test the soon to be whisky.
The tour ended with a tasting and it was curated well, with myself paying the extra to be able to try a single cask version of the whisky as well. We saw the whisky get taken from the cask and poured into our glasses which we got to keep, a great visual accompaniment to the experience.
One of my favourite whisky tours that I have been on, in particular thanks to our guide Cameron. We was friendly, knowledgable and answered all the questions that our tour group had for him.

Wedding anniversary tradition. Since 2016 when we're married up at Errichel we have visited the distillery to avail ourselves of filling our own specially engraved bottle with the single cask malt. This year our thanks go to Eleanor for arranging it all and to Ross for being the maitre d'. Always a lovely friendly visit from all. We will be back next year.

As whisky lovers me and my cousin really enjoyed the tour and the full experience during our recent visit. Our guide Dorothy was extremely knowledgeable and answered any and all questions that came her way. Obviously the most enjoyable part was the tasting! The 57.6 % 1999 was one of the best I’ve tasted. The museum was excellent also. Thoroughly recommend doing the experience and sampling the produce.

Due to Covid we didn’t get the full tour which was a shame, but what we saw was very interesting. Sadly we weren’t given enough time to look around the museum which is presented very well, if we’d visited earlier in the day they might have let us back in. The staff were friendly, and the tasting was good.

Thank you for your review.
Our tour has been updated slightly and there is currently no access to the production areas. This also happens every year during Silent Season so we are well prepared for this scenario and make sure that guests don’t miss out on this element of the experience. During Silent Season and at present, we show a film in our warehouse to explain the production process and offer samples for a multi-sensory production experience. As a thank you for visiting when we have changes to our offering, we are currently providing an additional complimentary tasting as an upgrade to every guest & we’re pleased that you enjoyed this tasting.

Managed to book a couple of tickets for a tour whilst in area. Warm welcome and the tour was a mixture of exhibits, film show and guide. Professionally done and lots to see. Our tour included two tastings each and was nicely done. For drivers, their tastings can be put into mini bottles to take away.
Unusually, the whisky we bought was only £1 cheaper in Tesco’s (admittedly on offer) after a £5 reduction with our ticket in the distillery shop. There is also a nice little cafe in the tasting room too.

Written 9 March 2020
Hi! Thanks for your question.
Our Distillery shop sells limited editions and single cask bottlings, as well as offering the opportunity to hand fill your own bottle of exclusively aged Aberfeldy Single Malt – only available at the Distillery, we also sell various items of Dewar's and Aberfeldy merchandise.
Our cafe serves soups, sandwiches and snacks as well as hot drinks and we feature a range of local produce on our menu as well.
We hope to see you soon!

Can I bring a dog on holiday in aberfeldy. My relative Mary Stewart use to work there
Written 9 April 2018
Hi Carol,
Unfortunately we don't allow dogs in the distillery, with the exception of guidance dogs.
However, Aberfeldy in general is a great location to bring your dog, with lots of beautiful walks in the locality, and lots of dog friendly cafes and pubs.

I see that the distillery is open until 1600 on Sundays in August. If I came by at 14:30 would I be able to join a tour or is the last tour really at 13:30? Thank you.
Written 30 March 2018
The last tour (90 mins) starts indeed at 13.30. It includes a self-guided visit to the museum, but even if you skip that 14.00 would be the latest opportunity to join the tour. If you are not fixed on Dewar’s there is always Edradour distillery down the road.

Is Aberfeldy Distillery disabled visitor friendly? Can someone in a wheelchair access tour areas?
Written 12 March 2018
Hi Sandra,
We offer full wheelchair access in the whisky lounge, cafe and distillery shop as well as the heritage centre and warehouse. Access is limited in the distillery due to stairs, please call +44 (0)1887 822010 or email us for more information.
You can check out our accessibility by visiting the FAQ page on the website - unfortunately I'm unable to add links into this answer.
We also have a full access statement if required.

Hi there, we are about 1 hour and 45 minutes from Edinburgh by car.
If you will not be driving during your stay, there is a small group tour company called Rabbie's that does day trips out of Edinburgh, and they stop at our distillery. A good way of visiting us and seeing some of the other beautiful sites of Scotland at the same time.
